I've attached a video of what's happening with the carriage during the startup procedure. Would you have any suggestions on what you think the problem would be? There are a number of things that can cause the print head path error. The brass screw on the tensioner assembly may not be totally disengaged. It needs to be completely unscrewed and hanging on https://www.lpscomputer.com/blogs/news/85333377-designjet-5500-print-head-path-error-2 its captive spring. The motor pulley may have debris remaining on it from the previous belt causing lumpy carriage movement If the carriage moves slightly and then the error occurs, the encoder strip is trapped behind the encoder sensor on the back of the carriage. If that is the case remove one of the end covers and move the carriage to that end so you can see the sensor and strip. Put the strip into the sensor. Defective encoder strip If you changed the carriage height (screw adjustment on the carriage) the carriage may be hitting something. Defective motor Broken tensioner or bad bearing on the tensioner pulley Also check that all the print head cleaners are completely seated down. The 5500PS fires up ok. Do a Calibration, all good. But then we start printing, it prints a line or 2, and stops right in the middle. The carriage moves smoothly on all start up operations, but just stops right in the middle when printing. I have tried many different jobs. That said the most common especially when changing the belt or carriage assembly is not adjusting the carriage height with the special tool provided when you get a new carriage. Unless you adjusted the height it is very difficult to diagnose your issue with the number of the path error and not knowing if the height is correct or not. There are many causes such as and not limited to, obstructions, not cleaning the crud check printhead path off the motor pully when replacing the belt, worn tube assembly rubbing on the top frame, any bent piece in the carriage path which obstructs with the movement, lack of lubrication, etc etc. The best test you can do is with the power off open the cleaner door on the right and pull out the cleaners. Now move the carriage assembly out and then using the belt move the carriage assembly back and forth over the complete width and see if you can spot and tight spots or areas where you have to use more pressure to get it to move. by dmzcompute on May 1, 2007 at 8:09pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I use an HP 1050C and I am having a similar problem. I get a "Clear Printhead Path (2) " error when I turn on the printer. The printhead shoots back and forth...the motor looks functional. One thing I noticed is that now the digital screen is surging in brightness every once in a while....not sure if this is related. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks by Anonymous on May 3, 2007 at 11:12am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Try the suggestion I gave above. If you cannot feel any obstruction the most likely cause is the tube assembly rubbing unevenly along the top. You can sometimes repair by removing the top cover and holding piece on top which hides the tube assembly below. With access try putting down a strip of packaging tape below the tube assembl
