Member From: Danville IL Registered: 2007-02-17 Posts: 204 Website growisofs and DVD Burning I have always had problems burning DVD's under Linux. Other than doing it by hand, which I find is extremely time consuming and a pain, the only working combination I've found is using DeVeDe to prepare the ISO image and k3b to burn the iso image. It seems that a recent update (within the last month) has broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92383 DVD burning on my system. I get the following error when using the growisofs command, the same error also shows up when I attempt to use k3b, burning music cd's (with k3b) is fine however.[george@gcomp ~]$ growisofs -Z /dev/cdrw -f ~/media/backup/Example.iso Executing 'mkisofs -f /home/george/media/backup/Example.iso | builtin_dd of=/dev/cdrw obs=32k seek=0' https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63531 Warning: -follow-links does not always work correctly; be careful. This will createyour iso, then install gnomebaker to burn it. I've hadloads of problems with k3b recently, as well - so I justuse these two utilities now, and very good they are too !Deej Offline #3 2009-01-21 21:05:50 Ruckus Member From: Danville IL Registered: 2007-02-17 Posts: 204 Website Re: growisofs and DVD Burning deej wrote:Ins

Also it was completely unresponsive until I restarted my linux box. The solution after searching google about the issue and finding little more than questions begging for help I decided to try it from the command line using "growisofs -Z /dev/cdrw=thedvdimage.iso" which again failed but before I restarted my computer I tried the same command again then strangely it started burning. I then tested it and it worked so in my option this is definitely a software issue (possibly something to do with timeouts). Anyway I thought it was best to share my findings for those in the same situation I hope this problem is solved soon so I can go back to using k3b. first try output growisofs -Z /dev/cdrw=thedvdimage.iso Executing 'builtin_dd if=thedvdimage.iso of=/dev/cdrw obs=32k seek=0' /dev/cdrw: "Current Write Speed" is 16.4x1352KBps. 0/46883328
