Posted on 2002-11-28 Linux 1 Verified Solution 15 Comments 3,128 Views Last Modified: 2010-03-11 Hello, Wonder if anybody knows why occationally I cannot burn CD? By occatonal I mean sometimes it works fine but every now and then I get an error message "Cdrecord: OPC failed" https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-905051.html when trying to burn CD-R. Writing to CD-RW works fine always though which makes me even more confused. My OS is Redhat 7.1, using XCDroast version 0.98alpha10 and Cdrecord 1.11a23. CD device is Acer. Below is the whole log from xcdroast, looks like the reason for OPC to fail could be wrong Sense Key or Sense Code perhaps?! Is the a way to fix this? Thanks for your help in advance :) Kimmo Calling: /usr/lib/xcdroast-0.98/bin/xcdrwrap https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20410487/CDrecord-OPC-failed.html CDRECORD dev= "0,0,0" fs=4096k -v -useinfo speed=1 -dao -eject -pad -data "/home/kimmo/images/psyche-i386-disc1.iso" ... scsidev: '0,0,0' scsibus: 0 target: 0 lun: 0 Linux sg driver version: 3.1.17 pregap1: -1 Cdrecord 1.11a23 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM Using libscg version 'schily-0.6' atapi: 1 Device type : Removable CD-ROM Version : 0 Response Format: 1 Vendor_info : ' ' Identifikation : 'CQ2440 ' Revision : '2.00' Device seems to be: Generic mmc CD-RW. The drive reads CD's fine, but cannot burn anything successfully. The drive works fine on a WinXP system. I have tried burning as root with bashburn, cdrecord, and xfburn, to no avail. I have also tried changing the SATA section in my BIOS from IDE to AHCI to no avail and have tried various media. The drive has the latest firmware installed. Part of my cdrecord log is below - showing the errors:..., Starting new track at sector: 0 Track 01: 1 of 520 MB written (fifo 100%) [buf 96%] 1.3x.Errno: 5 (Input/output error), write_g1 scsi sendcmd: no error CDB: 2A 00 00 00 02 0F 00 00 1F 00 status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION) Sense Bytes: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 2A 30 06 90 21 02 00 00 Sense Key: 0x5 Illegal Request, Segment 0 Sense Code: 0x21 Qual 0x02 (invalid address for write) Fru 0x0 Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid) cmd finished after 0.003s timeout 40s write track data: error after 1079296 bytes wodim: The current problem looks like a buffer underrun. wodim: It looks like 'driveropts=burnfree' does not work for this drive. wodim: Please report. wodim: Make sure that you are root, enable DMA and check your HW/OS set up.
