to respond Claudius Mar 21, 2009 11:05 AM Hello to eveyone as this is my first post here. I have been intel motherboard beep codes fighting this issue for 3 days now and would really welcome some advice.I have a SE7520AF2 motherboard with a Intel Xeon 3.00GHz and 2Gb of memory in an Intel SC5300 case. I've been fighting with this setup and noisy fans but that's for another post. However, it does mean that I haven't used the server for a while.I tried to boot it this morning and found that the On button on the front panel didn't work. I finally got the server to boot by removing the power, then removing and replacing the BIOS battery. The server then fires up when I plug it back into the mains. After dealing with the first BIOS error messages related to the BIOS being wiped, when I reboot the computer ( Not shuting down and then using the power button, it still doesn't work) I get the BIOS error message '84F2 Baseboard Management Controller failed to respond'.Looking through Google I can find a number of mentions to the error message but nothing on how to fix it. I've tried reflashing the BIOS (SE7520AF20.86B.P.12.00.0113) but this didn't solve the problem. As soon as I shut down the server I have to go through the removing the BIOS battery to get the server to restart. Can anybody help here or is the motherboard broke beyond repair? 24498Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. System will continue booting with degraded state. User may want to replace erroneous unit.(ii) Pause - The message is displayed on screen, an er

Solved Intel SE7520AF2 BMC controller not responding after update Posted on 2010-12-07 Server Hardware 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 1,814 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 I'm working on an Intel SC5300 server with SE7520AF2 board. The BMC firmware was updated incorrectly as baseboard, when the board is in fact an LX model (per Intel and vendor). https://communities.intel.com/thread/3179 Boot sequence is halted with an error of "84F2 Baseboard Management Controller failed to respond - press F1 to resume, F2 to enter setup". I have reflashed bios, cleared bios via jumper, still no success. Front panel controls are disabled, and when trying to update fru/sdr firmware I get a pause followed by BMC controller not responding. What are my options here, I am open to input. It is profoundly rare to be able to "force" an update to the wrong model by just setting a switch. First, such a feature is quite expensive to develop as it requires Go to Solution 8 Comments Message Author Comment by:Papabull2010-12-08 Okay, I'll bump it up to 500 points 0 LVL 46 Overall: Level 46 Server Hardware 28 Message Active today Expert Comment by:dlethe2010-12-08 You loaded an incompatible O/S in NVRAM. Pretty much all devices have a mechanism to re-bootstrap, but that sometimes requires making a special cable, messing with undocumented commands and RS-232 .. a big job. If Intel says there is no way to force a firmware update outside of a lab, then sorry, you'll have to get another BMC card. 0 Message Author Comment by:Papabull2010-12-08 Well I understand your position, I just have not gotten any answer for this issue - special cable or rs232 commands included. Intel is not saying anything, that is my problem. I would not have a problem getting a management card, if that was the case but the firmware I am talking about is onboard. If installing an IMM will take over for the mBMC on the board, I will be happy to do so. Just did not want to muddy the water on the onboard mBMC by installing an advanced management card, which may or not solve the issue. 0 LVL 46 Overall: Level 4
