or so and i have no idea why it is saying this. does anyone know what i should do? Biltin, Jul 11, 2004 #1 eddie5659 Moderator Malware Specialist Joined: Mar 19, 2001 Messages: 29,802 Hiya Take a look at this: Error PL4014: Playback failed due to an error with the audio subsystem - This error can occur if support for the DirectSound component of Microsoft DirectX® interactual player download is either not available in, or not supported by, your audio card's drivers. To correct this problem it may be necessary to update either DirectX or your audio card's driver. This error can also occur in the InterActual software if your system has the Ulead DVD Player installed. This software apparently does not have DirectSound support in its DirectShow sound filters, so when our player attempts to use it to play a DVD then the error will occur. For information about DVD decoders that properly support Microsoft DirectShow functions, visit the "Buy A DVD Decoder" section on our main website. http://player.interactual.com/help/support/articles/0151.asp So, first of all, which version of DirectX are you running? Go to Run and type DXDIAG In the first tab will be the version. Also, what is your sound card? Control panel | System. Device Manager. Under Sound will be the name of the card. Then, rightclick and choose Properties, driver tab. Whats the version? Regards eddie eddie5659, Jul 18, 2004 #2 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Plays audio cds fine. I had installed SP2 on the machine without any problem but started noticing on some forums about cd and dvd's not operating after sp2 was loaded. I thought I would check and found both audio and dvd not working. I un installed sp2 and the audio works ok but no video playback. The message is this: Interactual player 2.0, playback failed due to a problem in the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem. As I think about this when I uninstalled sp2 I got a box that stated that if uninstalled you may have problems with interactual player. How would be the best way to approach solving this problem? It's a Disney DVD, and I get "Interactual Player" which appears to be a Disney viewer. No matter what I try, I get an error saying the resolution is set too http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-208245.html high (800x600, IIRC), but from what I see the resolution of the screen CANNOT https://invisionpower.com/topic/226382-problem-with-playing-dvds/ be set any lower. What do I do to get the DVD to play? Why must it be such a hassle...can't it detect and change the settings itself!?!?! If it matters, I am running Windows XP Home Edition. All info, tips, and suggestions appreciated. Thanks, - Jinx robcaro08-30-2003, 07:46 PMJinx........ I just noticed on my desktop that the lowest resolution interactual player I can get is 800 x 600. I always thought that I could set it lower if I wanted to, but apparently Windows XP doesn't allow that. What about Windows 98 and 95? Giggle Gaggle08-30-2003, 08:00 PMYou need not use the Interactual Player. Use the standard DVD player that shipped with your system. Lobsang08-30-2003, 08:06 PMIt's a very bad/crap player if it must ask you to lower your resolution. See if your computer has an interactualplayer error lowering alternative player and use that. An even remotely decent player would stretch the playback into whatever res you are set at, or play the DVD in a window. I Jinx08-30-2003, 08:12 PMYeah, I thought it sounded odd that I'd have to make such an adjustment. I went on to try and play the DVD using Real One Player. (This must be the player that came with the laptop because I know I sure didn't install it.) The DVD still won't play. It wants me to download something so it can play, I guess? Is this some kind of initialization? (Or, registration?) My laptop isn't on-line...I'm using the desktop PC at present online. Is this the only way I'll be able to get Real One Player to play? And, is it a one-time deal, or will I always have to be online to run this player? Thanks, - Jinx astro08-30-2003, 08:16 PMGeneric players bundled with DVDs tend not to be very flexible. As others have suggested it might be better to use an alternative high quality player like WinDVD. My settings are as follows: Resolution: 1280x1024 pixels (maximum)Color Quality: Highest (32 bit)And the problem I get is pretty much the same, though this is the message interActual player gives me when trying to watch Matrix: Revolutions:interActualPlayer 2.0 ErrorPlayback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem.I changed the screen resolution several times, and the color from 32 to 16 but it doesn't solve the problem.
