I suggest that you run the diagnostics to check on the drive as well as the other hardware. To access the diagnostic menu as well as to find out what those test mean, check on here. Sometimes what happens is that the drive gets stuck and some people swear that by slapping the iPod really hard, it may free up the drive. Of course, you also want to double check your work and make sure that the HDD cable is properly attached. Your "retain all info I have installed over the last 9 years." should be relatively safe if you have performed any updates and synced the iPod. Those files are in the restore files on the computer you used fir that. Hope this helps, good luck. Was this answer helpful? Yes No Voted Undo Score 1 Cancel Comments: Did

Does iTunes keep giving you a weird error number that you don’t understand? Have you searched through many an iPod/iTunes forum looking for answers and yet still don’t know what’s wrong? Yeah, I’ve been there before. I know it well. The most frustrating thing is to wade through idea after idea, gradually considering the XYZ things you might need to do just to get your iPod to sync. You think there has to be an easier way. Surely someone at iTunes had this version of iPod and used XP too? Surely they didn’t have to resort to registry hacking to fix this? Well, we can hope. The same message appears now when I plug it in: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I have restored my iPod. or so it leads me to believe. "Your iPod has been restored to factory settings, and is restarting. Please leave your iPod connected. It will appear in the iTunes window after it restarts." And then, the same message appears on the summary page: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I do not understand what is wrong with it. I've already tried fixing it according to the apple site, but I can't find any examples of having this happen. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. 02-28-2008, 07:40 PM #2 dekalenda Freshman Lounger Join Date: Feb 2008 Posts: 4 permalink I have had the same problem. I
