They won't play on my Dell Latitude laptop, but will play powerpoint 2010 quicktime not available on other computers. My Dell is using XP Pro and if fully updated. I'm also using Microsoft Office 07 (fully updated). I've updated my Adobe Flash player (yesterday). When I click on the audio link I get an MCI error. It says "The specified file cannot be played on the specified MCI device. The file may be corrupt, not in the correct format, or no fil." Sep 16, 2009 #1 DCE TS mp4 to powerpoint converter Rookie Topic Starter I discovered the answer (with some help). Windows Media Player MUST be set as the default player for MP3s. error says "The specified file can not be played on the specified MCI device. The file may be corrupt, not in the correct format, or no fil". The error message gets cut off there. The files have http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/mci-error-in-powerpoint.134729/ been playing in the presentation before, and they play in various players with out a problem. I have not loaded any new software. I am using MS Office PowerPoint 2003 SP2 on an XP machine. Any idea how I can resolve this problem? Thanks in advance. mstyers, Mar 21, 2007 #1 mstyers Thread Starter Joined: Jun 10, 2004 Messages: 71 Looks like the problem is that PowerPoint will only play .wav files. The https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-powerpoint-mci-problem.553480/ way I got around it was to use a utility CDex from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/ that will convert the header from a .mp3 file to a .wav header. After that PowerPoint thinks it is a .wav file and will play it just fine. The file keeps the same size and bit rate. mstyers, Jun 25, 2007 #2 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. is a common error when trying to play a video clip from within PowerPoint presentation. In searching through the Microsoft Knowledg Base one article'(266983) (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;266983&Product=ppt2000 recommends you _DO_NOT_ add a video into a presentation but rather ad a hyperlink to the video file. This will open it with the appropriat player using the correct codec. We were getting the following erro opening certain MPG files in PowerPoint. The specified file cannot be played on the specified MCI device. Th file may be corrupt, not in the correct format, or no fil When the hyperlink is added in PowerPoint we get the following erro (on some computers). This error is referenced in the same article i Microsoft Knowledge Base and suggests opening the video clip usin MPLAY32, which will tell you if the the media is using the appropriat codec. When you open the same MPG file in MPLAY32 you the followin error. Unknown problem while loading the specified device drver This is because in the registry ke *[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window NT\CurrentVersion\MCIExtensions]* the MPG extension has to link to th mciqtz32.dll file in *[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Window NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32]*. To do so just change the MPEGVIDEO key t mciqtz32.dll in the *\MCI32* registry folder or change the MP extension in the *\MCIExtensions* registry folder to MPEGVIDEO2. Thi will allow the MPG file to open correctly in MPLAY32 and i PowerPoint. _______________________________ Matt Mortimer Sr. Computer Support Specialis ----------------------------------------------- ~~ Message posted from http://www.ExcelTip.com ~~View and post usenet messages directly from http://www.ExcelForum.com mattmortimer, Mar 18, 2004 #1 Advertisements Show Ignored Content Want to reply to this thread or ask your own question?
