Messages: 71 I hope someone can help me. I am getting an MCI Error when I try to play am mp3 idealshare videogo file in a PowerPoint Presentation. The error says "The specified file can not be played on the specified MCI device. The file may be corrupt, not in the correct format, or no fil". The error http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/mci-error-in-powerpoint.134729/ message gets cut off there. The files have been playing in the presentation before, and they play in various players with out a problem. I have not loaded any new software. I am using MS Office PowerPoint 2003 SP2 on an XP machine. Any idea how I can resolve this problem? Thanks in advance. mstyers, Mar 21, 2007 #1 mstyers Thread Starter Joined: Jun 10, 2004 Messages: 71 Looks https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-powerpoint-mci-problem.553480/ like the problem is that PowerPoint will only play .wav files. The way I got around it was to use a utility CDex from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/ that will convert the header from a .mp3 file to a .wav header. After that PowerPoint thinks it is a .wav file and will play it just fine. The file keeps the same size and bit rate. mstyers, Jun 25, 2007 #2 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. PowerPoint uses the Windows MCI (Media Controller Interface) player for playback of multimedia in PowerPoint and NOT the Windows Media Player (there are rare exceptions). To test your machine set up, you can manually start the MCI player and play your video in the MCI player. If the video fails to play in the MCI player it will not play correctly in PowerPoint. (You can start the MCI player by clicking Start > Run and type "mplayer2.exe" for Windows XP or "mplay32.exe" for Windows 2000, 2003). When your .avi file is inserted in PowerPoint the following size settings have proven to give the best visual result.
