runs an interactive teaching program from a DVD-ROM after setting up a few files on the hard drive. Everytime I try to run any part of this program it gives me the following error message and won't run: "MCI Error: Unknown problem while loading the specified device driver" There are Abort and Ignore choices, neither of which helps. I have an ASUS MB, P4, 500mb RAM, 12x DVD drive, XP Pro, Media Player 9, the latest drivers for video, the latest DirectX, all the fixes for the Indeo drivers missing from SP1, everything, in other words. I can double click on the large MPG files on the DVD and they play perfectly. DVD movies play normally. It's just the parts of this particular program that use these MPG files that won't run. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times, uninstalled the DVD software as directed. And I had a 45 minute tech support call with Microsoft--no help. I have done everything suggested by the software's tech support site. The program, incidentally, works /perfectly on my laptop/, also with XP SP1. Can anyone think of a reason why this "driver", whatever it is, won't load? How do you troubleshoot MCI errors? I can't see any driver or other file except for the exe program file that gets loaded, even on my laptop when the program is running. Thanks. I'm not sure what under MCI. Sorting through a registry watcher may help show things further, but: I'd just call it a day and use Movie Talk Spanish on the working system... -Z -- (speaking for myself and doing this in my free
