The Instruction At Referenced Memory At Could Not Be Written Windows 10
down vote favorite My OS is Windows XP SP3. This message sometimes comes up when I am shutting the computer down: The instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. The computer still shuts down. I cannot find a reference to this happening on shutdown, it only seems to be connected to programs that I don't have. I have the whole Word 2003 package. Any direction appreciated. windows-xp microsoft-outlook-2003 share|improve this question edited memtest Nov 21 '12 at 21:59 asked Nov 21 '12 at 17:18 Xavierjazz 5,70885484 1 Basically it means that some process in your box branched to location zero. This could occur for a number of different reasons, including some software packages that will do this intentionally when they intercept an error they can't handle. You'd need to find a log entry and maybe a dump of the problem app to figure it out. –Daniel R Hicks Nov 22 '12 at 0:32 Thanks. How can I "dump" the problem app? –Xavierjazz Nov 22 '12 at 0:33 You don't dump the app. It dumps itself or the system dumps it when it fails. Or not. You need to look at the event log to find out what might be there. –Daniel R Hicks Nov 22 '12 at 14:00 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted View the Event Log (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer). It will contain some error records (marked with red error icon), including application or service name causing the error. share|improve this answer answered Nov 21 '12 at 17:24 Mikhail Kupchik 2,049817 +1 thanks. I recently added a new printer - the error reads: Source - Brother BRlog - Event 1001. Any further advice? –Xavierjazz Nov 21 '12 at 21:41 Finally figured it out

It flashes as a pop up but its pretty fast and I can't really read it. Something about a problem with the memory at, then some numbers/letters, and the bottom line is OK to terminate, but it terminates itself I guess. This does not happen always, it's intermittent. I have run scf /scannow, chkdsk /f and the memory diagnostic http://superuser.com/questions/508804/computer-shows-error-message-when-being-shut-down-what-does-it-mean 2 pass deal and everything seems to be working OK. Also increased virtual memory a bit, but it still gives me that error. Any ideas? Could be a Windows or Software problem. It doesn't do it all the time so not every re-boot or shutdown. It doesn't do it when the computer is starting up only when its shutting down. I am thinking its not a hardware problem as it is doing this on 2 brand new but different types of computers. Occasionally I get an error dialog box that says that "Svchost.exe could not write to memory location xxxxxxx". I don't get this error everytime I shut down just about 4 times out of 10. I am using Win XP Home Edition w/SP2, AMD Athlon w/2GB RAM in an HP Pavillion a720n desktop. Any ideas of what to look for, or what is happening? I did a search for the file name 'svchost.exe' and had three locations: SVCHOST.EXE-3530F672.pf in C:\Windows\prefetch svchost in C:\Windows\system32 svchost in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\dd9ab5193501484cf5e6884fa1d22f9e Thanks, JPKirkpatrick JPKirkpatrick View Public Profile Send a private message to JPKirkpatrick Visit JPKirkpatrick's homepage!
