Framework > Common Language Runtime Internals and Architecture General discussion 0 Sign in to vote Hi everyone. I made an Visual Studio 2005 Win Application only for testing a connection to a Oracle 10g database (i only open a connection using the OracleConnection, check the status and then close it). I´m using the Oracle .NET provider version 2.102.2.20.I tested the app in different PC´s with windows XP OS and everything worked fine, but when i tried to deploy the app in a Windows 2003 server didn´t run. I checked the Event viewer and found this message:Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error ReportingEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 5000Date: 29/06/2007Time: 12:35:23 p.m.User: N/AComputer: ESTADISERVDescription:EventType clr20r3, P1 test_connect_oracle.exe, P2 1.0.0.0, P3 468543c3, P4 test_connect_oracle, P5 1.0.0.0, P6 468543c3, P7 e, P8 e9, P9 system.invalidoperationexception, P10 NIL.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Data:0000: 63 00 6c 00 72 00 32 00 c.l.r.2.0008: 30 00 72 00 33 00 2c 00 0.r.3.,.0010: 20 00 74 00 65 00 73 00 .t.e.s.0018: 74 00 5f 00 63 00 6f 00 t._.c.o.0020: 6e 00 6e 00 65 00 63 00 n.n.e.c.0028: 74 00 5f 00 6f 00 72 00 t._.o.r.0030: 61 00 63 00 6c 00 65 00 a.c.l.e.0038: 2e 00 65 00 78 00 65 00 ..e.x.e.0040: 2c 00 20 00 31 00 2e 00 ,. .1...0048: 30 00 2e 00 30 00 2e 00 0...0...0050: 30 00 2c 00 20 00 34 00 0.,. .4.0058: 36 00 38 00 35 00 34 00 6.8.5.4.0060: 33 00 63 00 33 00 2c 00 3.c.3.,.0068: 20 00 74 00 65 00 73 00 .t.e.s.0070: 74 00 5f 00 63 00 6f 00 t._.c.o.0078: 6e 00 6e 00 65 00 63 00 n.n.e.c.0080: 74 00 5f 00 6f 00 72 00 t._.o.r.0088: 61 00 63 00 6c 00 65 00 a.c.l.e.0090: 2c 00 20 00 31 00 2e 00 ,. .1...0098: 30 00 2e 00 30 00 2e 00 0...0...00a0: 30 00 2c 00 20 00 34 00 0.,. .4.00a8: 36 00 38 00 35 00 34 00 6.8.5.4.00b0: 33 00 63 00 33 00 2c 00 3.c.3.,.00b8: 20 00 65 00 2c 00 20 00 .e.,. .00c0: 65 00 39 00 2c 00 20 00 e

The reason for that is your application cannot log events without registered log source. You have two options to solve it: net runtime 2.0 1) Run you code once as local administrator (once)- having more permissions Windows will automatically create good source for you. Then you may run the code without administrative permissions (source is already registered) 2) Create the source for event as an administrator. Add one using REGEDIT under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\ underneath there should be EventMessageFile key of type REG_EXPAND_SZ with value c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\EventLogMessages.dll The example in VB.Net for your all application should look like: Imports System.Diagnostics Const LogSource As String = "TestException" Sub Main() Try Throw New Exception("I cannot do something") Catch ex As Exception EventLog.WriteEntry(LogSource, ex.ToString) End Try End Sub Attachments Created at 11/20/2009 11:47 by Artur Malinowski Last modified at 12/14/2009 12:25 by Artur Malinowski Use this page to add attachments to an item.
