Error Message client backup was not attempted because backup window closed Solution Overview: A Status Code 196 (client backup was not attempted because backup window closed) netbackup error 41 indicates that the NetBackup job was started and placed in a queued state. While the job was queued and waiting to be activated by the scheduler, the scheduled backup window closed.Troubleshooting:See the Resolution section below for background on the Status code 196 and different steps to troubleshoot this error.Log Files: n/aResolution:The following is a listing of background and other information to assist with troubleshooting a Status 196.I. Background The NetBackup scheduler process ("bpsched") is the process that is responsible for constantly scanning the NetBackup policy configuration and starting jobs at the time those jobs are due to run. Once a job is started, it is the scheduler that monitors the availability of tape resources and activates new jobs as jobs complete. In a large or complex NetBackup environment, it is not uncommon to occasionally encounter a scenario where the scheduler seems to be "stuck" or delayed. Consider a NetBackup environment that is supposed to have backup jobs activating at 1800 hours. However, backup jobs are not activating until 1900 hours or later even though there are tape resources immediately available. The common error that always faced with my customer is ‘status code 196 : client backup was not attempted because backup window closed‘, or the worst is the got ‘status code 96 : unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available‘. I think if you familiar with Netbackup, and somebody told you about these error code, probably with confident smile you will say, "Owh, its easy man; for status code 196, check the backup schedule then re-arrange the backup window time between all server, client and mediaserver and then for status code 96, just simply put new cartridges on its volume pool, then run backup again, I bet 100% the error code will gone. right?.
