display. This may or may not be related... but around the same time, my email was hacked, and so was my bank account. I've since reset all my passwords and recovered my funds from my bank. Is https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1598945 it possible a virus or something is causing my network adapter to "hide", which also prevents me from connecting online to check for updates? The Problems: 1.) Booting with my newer video card in place results in no display (no post, no windows loading screen) but I can still hear the computer booting up. Cannot get into BIOs, Safe Mode, etc. 2.) When I boot using an old video card, my display comes back, http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2750239/network-adapter-found.html but after booting to windows, it tells me there is no network adapter detected and I have no internet connection. The whole 'Network' category is also not shown in Device Manager at all. How I've attempted to fix the problem: - reset CMOS on motherboard by removing battery and power supply for hours before rebooting - used a USB stick to resinstall all drivers from the website of mobo manufacturer and video card - reinstalled a brand new copy of Windows 7 - installed older versions of the RealTek LAN driver - verified that the Network settings in the BIOS are enabled No luck. Still no display (with newer card) or Network Adapter. Everything was working fine, I was able to make everything work fine. Then yesterday morning I started up my computer and it was not connected to the internet. My ethernet was plugged network adapter in and everything was as it should be. I went in to device manager and noticed that my realtek network controller was not in the device list under network adapters. I then tried to reinstall my LAN drivers from ASUS (my motherboard) which is how I got it to work in the first place. However, this time when it "finishes" installing an error pops up no network adapter and says "The realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled Please plug the cable." I went on to many forums and here is what I've tried so far... Unplugged Power supply and flipped the power supply switch to off and let it sit for 10 mins (also I let it sit for a few hours and same result) Took out the RAM and did the above step again Went into Bios and made sure that my LAN settings were all enabled (also tried resetting all my settings to the default) Also flashing the bios (I'm not sure if I did this correctly, let me know what I should do, or how I can tell if I did this correctly) I'm at a loss..... I have been working on this now for several hours and still have not come up with a solution. If anyone can help me with this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. I would like to install the latest Debian stable version. After successfully booting from a CD burned from debian-7.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso, the install fails with: No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list. According to the specs, this machine has an Intel I218V Gigabit Ethernet controller. I tried choosing the e1000e driver, but the same screen reappears. When I go to the command line I can use lspci to see: # lspci -v | grep Ethernet 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 1559 (rev 04) Is this a matter of the installer not having the necessary updates for this hardware, or is this a problem with the hardware itself? EDIT: I have subsequently also tried the debian-7.3.0-amd64-xfce-CD-1.iso. The same problem occurs. This is the more detailed lspci output: # lspci -vnnk -s 00:19.0 00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1559] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2054] Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5 Memory at f7c00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] Memory at f7c3c000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] I/O ports at f080 [size=32] Capabilities: [c8] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [d0] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [e0] PCI Advanced Features David debian system-installation share|improve this question edited Dec 31 '13 at 4:57 asked Dec 30 '13 at 23:31 David T.
