It is likely that Windows XP does not support the drivers perfectly and thus causes errors (Illegal Media Source means that it tries to fetch paper from a tray that doesn't exist). PCL5e has been around for longer and doesn't have such issues. Bottom line: use PCL5e over PCL6 if you encounter problems. share|improve this answer answered Aug 13 '13 at 7:51 Sašo 1,1991611 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote It could well be drivers, however most posts I've seen suggested you shut-down your printer and cold start it up (remove AC power) This worked for me. share|improve this answer answered Feb 11 '15 at 9:33 user269836 1 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email an

All of our Unidesk desktops have this issue with color printers only. Driver changes, print processor changes, and print server changes https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26935495/IllegalMediaSize-error-on-only-one-PC.html do not make a difference. I created a case with Microsoft and they recomended to use an HP universal 5.5.0 driver, and they was all the help they provided. Printing from pcl xl other applications works fine. It needed to be an XP Professional PC because of various software packages that this office doesn't want to upgrade. I installed the software and drivers for the Ricoh Aficio MP-C3501 color multifunction printer and installed it as a network printer. Every time it prints we're getting and extra page with the following warning: PCL XL Warning: IllegalMediaSize I tried changing the drivers from PCL6 to PCL5c. This didn't work. I've been looking at the printer settings, but in each case the default media is letter and in no way special. The computer this is replacing as well as all the others in the office all print without this problem. Does anyone have a clue as to what's wrong? Tomorrow when I go there I may try re-installing drivers from this list on the Ricoh site (I already tried the first two, but I'm wondering about the third "Universal" one. Any ideas?
