Apr 16, 2013 at 1:41 UTC Had the same problem. I installed the pcl5 drivers and the error went away. 1 Sonora OP John4970 Apr 19, 2013 at 1:18 UTC Thank you - I will try that ... 0 Sonora OP John4970 May 8, 2013 at 1:13 UTC I tried the pcl5 drivers and that did not resolve the issue.. The printer was shared out - and the machines with the issue were printing that way. I deleted that pcl xl error warning illegalmediasource hp laserjet 4250 and went to direct ip printing and no more errors!.. Thank you Mstewart30 for taking the time to answer. 0 Pimiento OP geekgurl2000 Jun 25, 2013 at 10:29 UTC 1st Post We're having the same issue - not all users affected. Most x64 Win 7 Pro. We've tried PCL 5, PCL 6, PostScript, and Windows native drivers to no avail. These are direct TCP/IP print ports on the users' machines. 0 Jalapeno OP PatrickHS Jun 26, 2013 at 2:50 UTC Look at the web interface, and see if the paper sizes and types match the driver settings. Type meaning like card stock, envelope....default should be plain paper. Good luck. 0 Sonora OP John4970 Oct 17, 2013 at 2:20 UTC thank you all! 0 Sonora OP Pardee Jul 17, 2014 at 9:29 UTC Interestingly, I had the same problem, went through the same steps listed in this thread only to discover the my solution to be the age old 'Power it down' solution. All of our Unidesk desktops have this issue with color pcl xl error illegalmediasize outlook printers only. Driver changes, print processor changes, and print server changes do not make a difference. I created a case with pcl xl error warning illegalmediasource windows 7 Microsoft and they recomended to use an HP universal 5.5.0 driver, and they was all the help they provided. Printing from other applications works fine. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I stil have an HP CLJ 4700 that still spits out the PCL XL error illegal media size error. Any thoughts from anyone esle? How does everyone else implement printers in their enviroment? What we ended up doing was creating Unidesk app layers with universal print driver and the printerinstalled locally in them. It's no different than installing the printer locally as admin on the personalizaton layer, which was our workaround for a little while before I got the layers built. Resolved all the issues with HP printers. We have a few different layers that contain printers for specific departments, so we just assign printers to usersthat way. The only thing that doesnt seem to work is setting the defaultprinter. But we had problems with that before when deploying by login script. We are still using our print server for
Andreas C2500 PCL XL IllegalMediaSource April 20, 2011 06:38AM Hi, I am trying to print using the LCT on our http://forums.openprinting.org/read.php?30,13743 C2500 printer. But I'm only getting PCL XL Warning: IllegalMediaSource, and it http://forum.support.xerox.com/t5/Printing/PCL-XL-Error-and-other-weirdness/td-p/164 prints from the default tray. I've tried a host of different ppd's, even tried some generic ones. Any idea of what I am doing wrong? It's loaded with A4, "special" (pre-printed paper). Although the printer is set on pcl xl error auto on what type of paper, perhaps that's the problem? I can use tray3 with PCL5e drivers, but then I lose 80% of the options :( It works fine from Windows with PCL6 drivers. It seems that you specify nothing or "plain" in the data, which would give you a mismatch, depending on the machine configuration it should either stop and prompt you, or "autocontinue" and then use the default paper source. try to match the mediatype, and check on your Printer Features --> System , to see what your auto continue setting is regards Uli Wehner Host Printing Specialist Ricoh Americas Corporation Reply Quote Andreas Re: C2500 PCL XL IllegalMediaSource April 26, 2011 07:06AM Alright, so I've set Tray3 to Special in the printer and in

A user who is running Windows 7 32 bit edition is sending files to print (using the secure print function) - the system is reporting they have spooled fine to the printer - but when they go and release the document they are getting (more often than not) about 16 out of 21 pages (for example) and then a PCL XL Error (Subsystem: Text, InternalError 0x50, Operator: Text, Position: 8564). I have another document that 9 times out of ten will actually crash the WorkCentre completely and cause it to reboot mid way through printing. The driver we are using is the latest: "Xerox WorkCentre 7655 rev 2.0 PCL6"As mentioned the user is running Windows 7 - the printer is shared from a Windows 2003 Server which has the same version of the driver.Any suggestions from anyone?Kind regards,Luke Solved!
