We have a HP Laserjet 4050 printer, networked. One Windows 2000 machine keeps erroring when ever a print job is submitted. The error is as follows:PCL XL ErrorSubsystem: KERNELError: IllegalStreamHeaderOperator: 0x0Position: 0Anyone come across this problem before? We're tried re-installing the drivers.Any comments or suggestions will be welcome.Roadstone RE: PCL XL error - IllegalStreamHeader Jomama46 (TechnicalUser) 11 Nov 03 10:31 Try using a PCL 5 driver instead. The error is essence is that the image is too complex for the printer or is requiring more memory than the printer has. You could try, for example, removing some of the formatting, shading, bolding, etc. There was a similar topic on this subject here but I coulnt find it. Does this problem occure on all print jobs or just one specific one, in that case isn't the file corrupt ?? greetings, Peter 0 Message Author Comment by:roshetoye2000-08-04 Comment accepted as answer 0 Message Author Comment by:roshetoye2000-08-04 Thanks, I looked over it again this morni

This discussion is locked Macnick Level 1 (0 points) Q: "PCL XL error" on HP 1012 I have an HP 1012 printer connected directly to my Mac Pro via USB, and it seemed to have been printing fine just three days ago. I suddenly started getting errors when trying to print to it from any program. At first, the printer icon in the dock would have the little red exclamation point, and then when I tried opening the window and clicking the button to restart jobs, the printer would print this:PCL XL errorSubsystem: KERNELError: IllegalStreamHeaderOperator: 0x0Position: 0What does all this mean? I'm new to Macs, and I've never had this error before. Any help on how to fix it would be very much appreciated!!! I have seen this error when a printer is set to one printer language (PDL) and you are using a driver that is sending data to the printer in another language. Something may have changed with the system configuration, maybe an update or installation of a new application?I would try deleting the driver from the Printer Setup Utility and then from the Printer Setup Utility menu, selecting Reset Printing System. Once that is done, restart the Mac with the LJ1012 disconnected and then once the Mac is running again, connect the printer and open Printer Setup Utility again to add the printer.Regards,Paul Helpful (1) Reply options Link to this post by Macnick, Macnick Nov 6, 2006 9:26 AM in response to PAHU Level 1 (0 points) Nov 6, 2006 9:26 AM in response to PAHU Thanks. I think this fixed the problem. I do, however, have a lingering driver of some sort after I tried installing and uninstalling a program called Gugenprint... many of my printer drivers now have "CUPS + Gugenprint" at the end of them. Is there a way for me to get rid of this program and h
