When she sends a print job to the printer it prints an error page stating that there is a PCL XL error in the KERNEL subsystem, the error being "IllegalTag". We have a number of users printing to this machine https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20767348/PCL-XL-Error-IllegalTag-message-received-when-trying-to-print.html but only the one person receiving this error message as such I am wondering if this is something on her local machine settings, but if so I am not sure what. Please advise how best to proceed to resolve this issue. It will work just as well and will not produce that error. PCLXL is another name for PCL6 and it is much less forgiving of slight Go to Solution 5 Comments LVL 49 Overall: Level 49 Printers and Scanners 1 Message Expert Comment by:sunray_20032003-10-15 Jeremy, Check this http://oldlook.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Printers/HP_Printers/Q_20687999.html?query=PCL+XL+error+in+the+KERNEL+subsystem&searchType=all This guy rebooted the printer and it worked fine Let me know if you are not able to access this thread Sunray 0 LVL 49 Overall: Level 49 Printers and Scanners 1 Message Expert Comment by:sunray_20032003-10-15 If this doesnot work try reinstalling the driver with the latest updates Some more ideas from these threads http://oldlook.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Printers/Q_10887961.html?query=PCL+XL+error+in+the+KERNEL+subsystem&searchType=all http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/parseCurl.do?CURL=%2Fcm%2FQuestionAnswer%2F1%2C%2C0xeb5c9c196a4bd71190080090279cd0f9%2C00.html&admit=716493758+1066273431710+28353475 Sunray 0 Message Author Comment by:Jerrytb2003-10-16 OK, Thanks Sunray I will check these out and see if any of them help

A user who is running Windows 7 32 bit edition is sending files to print (using the secure print function) - the system is reporting they have spooled fine to the printer - but when they go and release the document they are pcl xl error getting (more often than not) about 16 out of 21 pages (for example) and then a PCL XL Error (Subsystem: Text, InternalError 0x50, Operator: Text, Position: 8564). I have another document that 9 times out of ten will actually crash the WorkCentre completely and cause it to reboot mid way through printing. The driver we are using is the latest: "Xerox WorkCentre 7655 rev 2.0 PCL6"As mentioned the user is running Windows 7 - the printer is shared from a Windows 2003 Server which has the same version of the driver.Any suggestions from anyone?Kind regards,Luke Solved! Everything seems to work (so far) if on the printing preferences advanced tab I set "Advanced Printing Features" to Disabled.Would be nice to know why this causes issues when enabled, especially as by default the driver has it set to enabled when installed!
