AM by michael_northdakota PDF brings PCL XL Errors michael_northdakota May 21, 2014 4:10 AM We have a specific document we need printing with a lot of graphics, however when printing to our HP Laserjet 400 https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/HP-M1536-PCL-XL-error-or-inverted-PDF-document/m-p/515445 printer - it brings up PCL XL errors like IllegalFontData, I think the PDF was created in InDesign. 6271Views Tags: none (add) acrobatContent tagged with acrobat, pdfContent tagged with pdf, indesignContent tagged with indesign, printingContent tagged with printing, hp printerContent tagged with hp printer, pcl xlContent tagged with pcl xl This content has been marked as final. Re: PDF brings PCL XL Errors michael_northdakota May 22, 2014 2:38 AM (in response to pwillener) Hello,Yes I've tried that and it does work, however we send these PDFs to all in our team and unfortunately we can't ask everyone to go into their Advanced settings and Print as Image every time we send a PDF it's just not reasonable for them to do, and we have a lot in our team. So within InDesign we have decided to Print the Indesign file to PDF instead of exporting it and then print the PDF as it is - it seems to have worked. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. Re: PDF brings PCL XL Errors michael_northdakota Jun 12, 2014 2:44 AM (in response to michael_northdakota) Hello, In the end we found a different solution - print as image did work, but we realised it was the Oswald font that was not compatible with these printers so we decided to removed the oswald fonts from our Indesign and exported the files without Oswald. Works. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions Go to original post Actions More Like This Retrieving data ... Legend Correct Answers - 10

A user who is running Windows 7 32 bit edition is sending files to print (using the secure print function) - the system is reporting they have spooled fine to the printer - but when they go and release the document they are getting (more often than not) about 16 out of 21 pages (for example) and then pcl xl error a PCL XL Error (Subsystem: Text, InternalError 0x50, Operator: Text, Position: 8564). I have another document that 9 times out of ten will actually crash the WorkCentre completely and cause it to reboot mid way through printing. The driver we are using is the latest: "Xerox WorkCentre 7655 rev 2.0 PCL6"As mentioned the user is running Windows 7 - the printer is shared from a Windows 2003 Server which has the same version of the driver.Any suggestions from anyone?Kind regards,Luke Solved! Everything seems to work (so far) if on the printing preferences advanced tab I set "Advanced Printing Features" to Disabled.Would be nice to know why this causes issues when enabled, especially as by default the driver has it set to enabled when installed! few minutes. Join Now When trying to print a large PDF (86 pages) from Adobe Reader after 46 pages I get the following error printed out and the print job just stops. PCL XL error Subsystem: IMAGE Error: ExtraData Operator: ReadImage Position: 134591 I am running XP and printing to a HP LaserJet 4000n. The print drivers are HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v5.3). I have 64bit machines running so i need to have the universal drivers (HP doesn't have Windows 7 64bit drivers for the LaserJet 4000). Is this an issue with the print driver or is it something with the PDF or Adobe Reader? Let me know if you have any other questions. Do you know if it's spooling the entire document first on a print server or the local computer before sending to the printer or is it sending the document to the printer immediately? Might want to test those settings if it's not an issue with the document itself. 1 Datil OP lhatsynot Dec 5, 2011 at 9:28 UTC I tried printing again starting with the last page the successfully printed and i got 3 pages out then another "PCL XL error" only with a different position (Position: 11942). The printer is networked and goes through a print server it spools and starts printing immediately. The event viewer on the print server shows the job went through. 0 Jalapeno OP Eric8553 Dec 5, 2011 at 9:33 UTC Have you tried the Universal Postscript driver? I have alot more success with PDF files using Postscript drivers (especially with my HP printers). 0 Poblano OP IdZ-v9 Dec 5, 2011 at 9:36 UTC Usually my first step is to delete the printer from the local PC and re-install / let it download the driver from the server again. If that doesn't fix then I test on other PCs to see if I get the same result from that printer. If I get the same result from other PCs it could be the driver on the server. Other things like firmware on the printer could have an effect on its ability to handle these jobs. One other thing you also might want to try first is printing the same job on another printer to see if you get the same error. PDFs sometimes get corrup
