like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English. Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold. Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link. Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes. desktop PC. I have 5 desktops on a network with the company file located on the server. When I try to uninstall I receive the following error: [Error 1327] The drive S: is invalid I have followed Intuit's procedure on fixing this problem (disabling LAN connection), but it did not resolve the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas what I should do. Thank you. mlt qbsrox04-26-2006, 04:33 PMDoes this happen on all the computers or just one? Why are you uninstalling? Is the S drive your mapped drive? Possibly you have lost the mapping. Rox :-) mlt04-27-2006, 07:33 AMGood morning Rox! Thank you for responding to my posted Quickbooks question. I really appreciate it. My network at work is very small consisting of three Dell Dimension PCs and two wireless laptop HPs. One of the Dells serves as a semi quasi server where the companys Quickbooks data file exists. When the latest patch came out awhile ago, I was unable to install the software on the Dell computers. During the installation, I received the [Error 1327] The drive S: is invalid error message. I was successful in installing the patch on the two laptops. Shortly after upgrading the two laptops, problems started occurring while accessing the company file. I thought that this maybe due to running the different versions of Quickbooks on the Dells and laptops. At this point, I thought that I would start all over on the three Dells by uninstalling and installing Quickbooks. I was able to uninstall/install the software on the Dell server. The latest patch then installed successfully. When I tried the same thing on the other Dells, I encounter the [Error 1327] The drive S: is invalid error message again. The S drive is not mapped on any of the computers. I hope that I explained my situation properly and is not to confusing. If you need any clarification or more detailed information, please let me know. Thanks, Matt qbsrox04-27-2006, 06:29 PMHey Matt, So the 'S' drive is phantom and doesn't exist, right? I would have done the same thing as you, uninstalled and started fresh, that makes perfect sense. The fact that you couldn't uninstall it from a few of the computers is weird .... were they connected to the network at the time? If so, unconnect them and give it a go. You may have to get the updates and install them manually (available on the Intuit website)
