Arduino Sd Card Initialization Failed
2011, 08:37 am Last Edit: Oct 13, 2011, 09:34 am by gparaliReason: 1 Hello sd.begin fails everyoneI am somewhat new with arduino so excuse any ignorance I might display.I am trying to interface with an SD card. Its an initializing sd card...initialization failed. things to check old MMC card, 32MB. I also tried with microSD (4GB) card and an SD adaptor but no luck. My setup is arduino duemilanove, atmega328p. I am using this scematic http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1206874649. I try to run the SDinfo example

from the Sdfatlib. It fails to initialize both cards displaying this message:card.init failedSD errorCode: 0X1SD errorData: 0X0After playing around a little, I noticed that if I remove the wire connected to the CS pin of the card at the begining of the initialization (not too soon, nor too late), then the card is recognized.I am pretty sure my wiring is correct (although I might be wrong)I have " const uint8_t SdChipSelect = 10; "

and i have CS pin of the SDcard connected to pin 10.I am powering the card from the 3.3v suply on the arduinoDoes anyone have a suggestion? I am sure I am doing something stupid but I have no idea what. Thanks![Edit: The cards both work on my pc] PaulS Brattain Member Posts: 70,818 Karma: 1751[add] Seattle, WA USA Re: Sd Card (MMC) initialization error #1 Oct 13, 2011, 12:38 pm QuoteI have " const uint8_t SdChipSelect = 10; " and i have CS pin of the SDcard connected to pin 10.Well, that's two of three things you need to do. That's easy to correct, though. gparali Newbie Posts: 4 Karma: 0[add] Re: Sd Card (MMC) initialization error #2 Oct 13, 2011, 02:35 pm QuoteWell, that's two of three things you need to do. You also need to set the pin value correctly.Do you mean set pin 10 to Output? If yes then I think the library is taking care of that during initializationThe code of the SDinfo is Code: [Select]/*

Sd Error Code 0x1 0xff
tweet I was working on a project that involved the use of a SD (Secure Digital) card to log data into a text arduino sd card not working file. I chose Arduino as it had a vary stable FAT (File Allocation Table) library. I had an Arduino Mega at my disposal and built a resistive network to step down the logic levels of the Arduino http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=75244.0 SPI bus at 5v to the SD card's at 3v3. I was getting voltage levels that were withing the absolute maximum ratings of the SD card. I have some experience with Arduino in the past (all good ones), and I expected things to work out of the box. But to my surprise I was mistaken. When I burned one of the example sketch to check the Card Info, I got this error "SD card http://embedjournal.com/arduino-sd-card-initialization-failed/ initialization failed". Initializing SD card initialization failed. Things to check: * is a card is inserted? * Is your wiring correct? * did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module? 123456 Initializing SD card initialization failed. Things to check:* is a card is inserted?* Is your wiring correct?* did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module? Then after some research I discovered that, the Arduino SD library is just a colorful wrapper for the SDfatlib, and the actual library has much more options and can be used to debug properly. When I tested the quick start sketch form the newly installed library, I got this error message, SD chip select is the key hardware option. Common values are: Arduino Ethernet shield, pin 4 Sparkfun SD shield, pin 8 Adafruit SD shields and modules, pin 10 Enter the chip select pin number: 4 SD card initialization failed. Do not reformat the card! Is the card correctly inserted? Is chipSelect set to the correct value? To nail down the core issue i tried running the "SdInfo" example from the SdFat library. This is my output: SdFat version: 20111205 type any character to start card.init failed SD errorCode: 0X1 SD errorData: 0X0 If i change SS_PIN from 9 to 10 in Sd2PinMap.h per Sparkfun instructions (http://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/295) the sdcard.init(...) method just hangs. I think the issue is because of a conflict between the W5100 ethernet chip and the MP3 player shield. Is there any conflicting ports that i am unaware of? Or do i need to disable the W5100 chip? arduino fat atmega share|improve this question asked Apr 14 '12 at 2:41 CodeMonkey 8916 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote What size SD card are you using? (try using a SD card that is <4GB for compatibility ) You dont need to change it to pin 10 according to the schematic Sparkfun have posted. Also looking at the sparkfun page have you tried this? madsci's Library and also try this init command in the declarations card.init
