My camera records video in MOV format. I am now attempting to copy the files onto sd card write protected my harddrive. All recorded videos are appearing when exploring the card's contents, but one of them (860 Mb large) won't copy. Actually, it copies fine until the last 5 seconds, then I am given an i/o error by Windows. You might lose a little bit of the video, but the remainder should be fine. Any other way to force copy it? Why am I getting this i/o error to start with? I thought spending the extra $ on a Sandisk card instead of some 3rd party unit would ensure me a good card but apparently everything is junk these days. Please any more suggestions are greatly appriciated, I really need this file, even if part of it will contain errors, I just need it copied off of the card. a sudden when I tried to open it all I got was an I/O device error. At first people told me this was a registry problem, but when I tried plugging it into other systems the same error popped http://www.ozzu.com/hardware/device-error-for-external-and-flash-hds-t76874.html up. Strangly, the drive used to read E, but now reads as G. I don't think this is entirely the cause of the problem though, because when I tried plugging this into other systems it read E, but still with the http://techin.oureverydaylife.com/fix-nonfunctional-microsd-21872.html same I/O device error. I have Windows XP on an HP notebook, and I am clueless. I tried disabeling the device, re-enableing the device, uninstalling the device and reinstalling the device. I tried a registry cleaner but it only cleaned 50 sd card problems. I purchased a new cable and that didn't work either, and plugged both cables into all 4 of my USB ports. I bought System Mechanic 7 Professional, only because I live in a small town and Wal-Mart is the only place to buy software. Is there a solution? Does any one know what an I/O device error means? Can I retrieve my information? I'm willing to drive very far and buy very expensive software to do this, so please tell me o device error if there is any software that can help. Also, please tell me if there is any basic thing I can do to help. It sounds like something corrupted the file system on the external drive. That's why you're getting an Input Output error. What is the exact error message? mtg837 Born Posts: 3 3+ Months Ago G:// is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. This occurs when I try to open the drive. Don2007 Web Master Posts: 4923Loc: NY 3+ Months Ago That drive is corrupt for one reason or another. If you want to take a long shot, you may be able to mount the drive on a Unix box or try something like the Ultimate Boot CD. Also, you could search for data recovery software, in which I don't have much faith, but who knows? mtg837 Born Posts: 3 3+ Months Ago Well that was the answer I was sort of fearing and expecting as well. Is there any way I can wipe the hard drive to make it useable again? Don2007 Web Master Posts: 4923Loc: NY 3+ Months Ago I just thought of something. I never tried it on a external drive but you might try the manufacturer's diagnostic tools. In most cases, you can d/l the
Files on an SD Card How to Restore Deleted Files From USB How to Fix an I/O Device Error How to Make a Bootable Flash Drive How to Download MP3 Files to a microSD Card or TF Card How Do I Reformat an SD Card? As long as you handle a microSD card carefully and keep it protected -- either in a storage case or in a device that uses it -- it should last for several years. Nevertheless, you might experience certain problems with a microSD card that lead you to believe the device is broken or defective. Common problems with microSD usually relate to formatting or write errors. However, in most cases, you can resolve these types of microSD errors using a few relatively simple techniques. Recover Files Insert the microSD card into the appropriate slot on the card reader. Connect the data cable from the card reader to a free USB port on the computer. Wait a few seconds for Windows to detect the card reader and microSD card and configure them for use automatically. Press "Windows-E" and then click "Computer." Double-click the drive letter assigned to the microSD card by Windows. Verify that Windows displays a "Drive not formatted" error and asks if you want to format the drive. Close the error message and File Explorer window. Download an application that enables you to recover files from corrupt drives and storage devices such as microSD cards. Free programs such as Asoftech Data Recovery, iCare Recovery Free and AnySoftwareTools Data Recovery Software (links in Resources) are all compatible with microSD cards and enable you to recover files from the device even if Windows will not display the data due to format or partition issues. Save the application setup file to your computer. Press "Windows-E" and then click "Downloads" in the File Explorer window. Scroll-down to and double-click the setup file for the recovery application. If prompted, accept the license agreement and then follow the remaining prompts to install the file recovery program on the computer. Restart the computer if prompted. Launch the recovery application on the computer. Select the drive letter or volume name of the microSD card in the Drive or Partition viewing pane of the recovery application. Click the "Recover" or "Scan and Recover" button in the recovery application.
