question Anybody can answer The best answers are voted up and rise to the top Damaged SD card (badly unmounted?) How to fix? up vote 5 down vote favorite 1 First Off I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on a laptop with a built in card reader. I have a sandisk 8Gig micro sd card that came with my HTC Desire HD phone. Unfortunately I sd card never left busy state had mounted it to a windows computer at work via a usb cable attached to the phone and didn't "safely remove hardware". This was not the first time I didn't "safely remove" it from windows and each time I accidentally did so, I had to restart my phone before the sd card was accessible again. It must have worn out something though because now my phone won't recognize the card at all and when I put it into my laptop's card reader I get the following errors in /var/log/syslog Apr 4 21:17:59 jesse-laptop kernel: [12665.532025] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card Apr 4 21:18:00 jesse-laptop kernel: [12667.192024] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card Apr 4 21:18:02 jesse-laptop kernel: [12668.860020] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card Apr 4 21:18:04 jesse-laptop kernel: [12670.532020] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card I have googled this message but can't find anywhere that explains what it means. All of the posts regarding similar errors that I found are about getting card readers to work, but my card reader works perfectly when I insert a different sd card. Apr 4 21:26:35 jesse-lapto

Mmc0 Unknown Controller Version (3)
8:32 AM I am trying to use a microSD card with the sparkfun base block and microSD card block. Edison FW version is 120 (previous version, not the one http://askubuntu.com/questions/277848/damaged-sd-card-badly-unmounted-how-to-fix just released)When I insert the card, I get the error:mmc1: error -110 whilst initialising SD card. The card is a 32 Gb Samsung EVO (class 10), formatted FAT32. I have verified that it works on a laptop running CentOS.Not sure what to look at next, any suggestion are appreciated. 1353Views Categories: Intel(r) Edison Module, Expansion Boards, Hardware & Shields, Storage https://communities.intel.com/thread/67285 Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. The Arduino breakout board from Intel works with Class 10 cards, though. Not sure if that is usable for your project or not. Like Show 1 Likes(1) Actions 2. mount -t vfat /dev/mmcblk1 /mnt/mmcIf the above mount command doesn't work try:mount -t vfat /dev/mmcblk1p1 /mnt/mmcAlso what is your output from:dmesg -T | grep mmc1I managed to get a Sandisk Ultra 16GB SDHC UHC-1 working by this method. Although not technically a class 10 it is the UHC equivalent.P.S How do I format code in tags? Like Show 1 Likes(1) Actions 3. Re: m

Checksum checked out. All the files seem to be there when I look at the card on my Mac. But when I try to boot up, I get this line over and overmmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card Eventually, the screen just goes black.I looked at this page for updating the firmwarehttp://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting# ... re_versionHowever, these instructions don't appear to include an option for Mac OS. By the way, the green light seems to blink in a 4-pattern, indicating loader.bin not launched, but loader. bin isn't included in the installation I did (i.e., writing the image didn't put that file on my card), and various pages I've looked at indicate that this file is no longer necessary. But you did the right thing dropping the link into another post the other option is to reply to your own post so it bumps back to the top of the list the forum has such a high turnover. It is not good news yet because I'm a Windows Linux kind of guy but with a little bit of nudging I'm sure there will be Mac people here soon. Noob is not derogatory the noob is just the lower end of the noob--geek spectrum being a noob is just your first step towards being an uber-geek If you find a solution please post it in the wiki the forum dies too quick Posts: 2218Joined: Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:15 pmLocation: Newcastle upon Tyne UK by WhatTheDickens » Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:50 pm Thanks for responding.
