You receive “FTP Folder Error – An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder – The connection with the server was reset” if you use Internet explorer in a PC. 2. You receive I/O Error - Connection reset. 3. The server Event Viewer lists ID 10 - User administrator at host x.x.x.x has timed-out after 120 seconds of inactivity. Resolution: 1. For PC users, uncheck Use Passive FTP. To do that, open IE>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced, uncheck Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility). 2. For Mac users, select Active (instead of Passive). 3. In the server side, try to turn on TCP port 20 and 21 in your router/firewall. It worked for last year. Recently, we got many users and clients reports saying they receive “FTP Folder Error – An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder – The connection with the server was reset”. The Event Viewer lists ID 1- User administrator at host x.x.x.x has timed-out after 120 seconds of inactivity. The solution we have is using active FTP instead of passive (details here http://www.chicagotech.net/troubleshooting/eventid10.htm )We have tried to re-configure the router (Cisco 830 and also tried D-Link DI-704P) and open more ports like 20, 1034 or higher. We also tried to remove the router from the picture and use the Windows 2003 connecting to the Internet directly with firewall for the test. But still get the same issue. I think it may be Windows AutoUpdate installed some security patch. Does any one know how to fix this issue on the server? However then at the bottom left corner of IE saying "getting contents of folder" and wait about for 30 secs, then it prompts the msg with header FTP Folder Error "An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder. Detail: The connection with the server was reset". But if the connection with i tested with DOS window from remotely, i can access and view the list of files in that folder without any problem. Also if i ftp from my server 2003 thru IE by using local IP, i can access to the folder without any problem. So, i start thinking that why it works with FTP in DOS but not in IE of 2003 server. I also create another FTP server on win XP SP2 (exactly same default setting as 2003 server) and FTP remotely, working fine, i can see the directory. Can some body give a hint how to solve it. I did two things to solve my problem (and I would try them in this order, as the first solution has zero-to-no security impact, while the same can't be said for the second solution.) That being said, here-goes: 1. In Internet Explorer, try removing the default of "Use Passive FTP". Google is your friend for your specif
