I have Tomcat5.5.26 installed on a Windows2008 Server. The service works fine and starts automatically. However, when I log into the system, I get a dialog box saying "Access is denied. Unable to open the service 'Tomcat5'. There are no issues with the service (afaik) and windows could not start the apache tomcat 7 on local computer I can view it just fine through services.msc. In fact, I've verified that I can change the logon credentials of the service and its start-up type. I've tried searching the Windows Event Logs for this error, but can't find it. Any idea why it's popping up? The account I'm logging in as has Administrator Privileges, though interestingly when I try to run Tomcat5w.exe, unless I explicitly right-click and choose 'Run as Administrator' I'm not able to open it. windows tomcat service windows-services tomcat5 share|improve this question asked Nov 21 '13 at 2:05 Bob . 304513 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote It turns out the last statement I included about permissions was the key. It's still not clear to me why I get the error on startup, since my account has sys admin privileges, but... ... to make the error go away I had to right-click on the tomcat5w.exe file (\bin\tomcat5w.exe) > properties > compatibility tab. Under sub-section 'Privilege Level' check off 'Run this program as an administrator'. share|improve this answer answered Nov 21 '13 at 2:15 Bob . 304513 add a com

Icaro Dourado Greenhorn Posts: 9 posted 5 years ago This seems easy to solve, but I suggest you to get the version where you just run its scripts to start and stop it instead of the one you start it as a service. Plus, put it in a folder you have full permission (like in your documents). You can try this , i have xp also and it works for me : 1.right click on "my-computer" and then click the "Manage" option. 2.Computer management window appears. In the left side click "Services and Applications". 3.Click "Services" 4.On the right side, click "services". 5.Now you will see "Apache Tomcat" listed as a service. Click it and press "start" button on the window you see. Tomcat star

Bill Charles Owen Ranch Hand Posts: 61 posted 4 years ago You can also start tomcat by the command line. cd to the tomcat installation\bin directory. Then you should be able to just type startup.bat. You may have to open the console as an administrator. Esaki muthu Greenhorn Posts: 7 posted 4 years unable to open ago If you get this error while starting the system .you can go to the msconfig.msc and disable the Apache common from the start up. Another way is you can Right click and run as the administrator. I have both CMC & Infoview working. I am trying to open Tomcat Configuration to set up SSO, but it is giving an error message, "Access is denied. Unable to open the service 'BOE120Tomcat'.I could see Tomcat service running under the windows service manager. Even tried running the Tomcat5.exe from "\Tomcat55\bin" folder, but it didnt openup any window. How to resolve this.Or is there any other way to add the below two lines in Tomcat to enable SSO.-Djava.security.auth.login.config=C:\winnt\bscLogin.conf-Djava.security.krb5.conf=C:\winnt\Krb5.ini 4287Views Re: Unable to open tomcat Joshua Kuhn Jun 10, 2010 3:13 PM (in response to Hari Krish) Currently Being Moderated Open up your Start > Run command and type in the following. You might have to change the path to the tomcat5w.exe if not installed to the default C:\ drive. The end is important as it tells which instance of Tomcat to open the config manager for. I don't believe launching the tomcatw.exe directly will work."C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\bin\tomcat5w.exe" //ES//BOE120TomcatThe last part of the command is the service name for Tomcat. If you are using Tomcat that was installed with the default XI 3.1 installation, the above should work. If you installed your own instance of Tomcat separately, go into Administrative Tools > Services and open the properties of Tomcat. The Service Name is normally "BOE120Tomcat" but change this part of the command line if yours is named different.Edited by: Joshua Kuhn on Jun 10, 2010 3:02 PM Alert Moderator Like (0) Re: Unable to open tomcat Hari Krish Jun 10, 2010 4:21 PM (in response to Joshua Kuhn) Currently Being Moderated Thanks Joshua!, I tried that and got the same error message.I have installed BOBJ in D drive, so the path is "D:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\bin\tomcat5w.exe" //ES/BOE120Tomcat . I checked the windows services and the tomcat service name is BOE120Tomcat ( I installed the tomcat that comes with BOE 3.1). Also I logged in to the server as administrator.
