Search on GeoNet Submit to ArcGIS Ideas Error: Unable to save edits because of failure arcgis unable to save edits error stopping an edit session with save edits when flushing edits to the database Error Message If the save process cannot successfully write arcgis fdo error all the changes from the edit session in the logical network, as one unit of work, the save process fails and one of the following error messages is returned:"Unable to save edits.""Unable to save edits because of failure when flushing edits to the database." Cause When editing geometric networks, all changes to the logical network are performed in memory on the desktop to improve editing performance. Upon saving the edit session, the logical network changes are 'flushed' to the geodatabase as part of the save process. If for any reason the process cannot successfully write all the changes in the logical network, as one unit of work, the save process fails. The failure of the save process can possibly be attributed to numerous problems. Any underlying DBMS error while saving can cause the error to occur. The following are some examples of DBMS errors: unable to extend a table or index segment; unable to allocate a rollback segment; device failure or system failure; and possibly the organization's network. Also, if the geometric network resides in ArcSDE, the user cannot create a new version from the edit session. At this point, due to the failure of the save, the edit session has been flagged as corrupt, and no further editing is supported. Solution or Workaround The only resolution to the problem is to first identify why the process failed and then correct the problem. Errors can be detected in the %SDEHOME%/etc/sde.errlog or in any of the DBMS logs.Once the problem has been corrected, the edits that failed to save in the edit session must be redone. Search on GeoNet Submit to ArcGIS Ideas Error: Unable to Save Edits - failure when flushing edits to database Error Message When editors go to save their edit session, the operation fails with the following errors: "Unable to save edits"and "Unable to save edits because of failure when flushing edits to the database". Cause 1. The length of values in a DATE or NUMBER field may be too long.In the case of an Oracle database, the verbose sde error log records:db_sda_execute_stmt::OCIStmtExecute (1483).[08/09/2006 09:42:54;SdeId=17487;Client=arcfm1] DB_execute_insert_table OCI Execute Error (1483).Details on the cause:ORA-01483: http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000005008 invalid length for DATE or NUMBER bind variable. Cause: A bind variable of type DATE or NUMBER is too long. Action: Consult your manual for the maximum allowable length.2. There have been cases where custom tools (ArcObjects, ArcFM) that automatically populate fields when the user saves their edits have caused this error to occur.3. If using Oracle 10g R1, this may be an Oracle bug that was resolved in release Oracle 10.1.0.5. 4. There may be insufficient http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000008860 space to save the edits. Solution or Workaround To narrow down where this issue occurs, check the following details:a) Check the values and field definitions for DATE or NUMBER fields that are being edited before the error occurs. If there are any custom tools or custom code updating DATE or NUMBER fields, check with the developer of the custom tools to check the maximum allowable length of values that are being inserted.b) If the user does a smaller number of edits between saves, and the error happens less often, check the available hard drive space/tablespace and increase the maximum number of concurrent open cursors by adjusting the Oracle initialization parameter open_cursors. The parameter's default value is 300; increase the number of available cursors to 3000. Test if this makes any difference. c) Check to see if the problem with saving edits only happens with one particular feature class, in only the geometric network, or with only one particular version. Check if it happens only on one client machine, with one editor, or one sde service. d) Check the workflow. Are multiple editors editing the same version at the same time and saving edits at the same time? When each editor edits in a separate version, does the error still occur?e) Check if there are table or state locks that may be interfering with saving edits by

I brought my data from work, and worked on it yesterday with out any problems. However, ArcGIS seemed to stop working (I guess because my unable to save data is so huge with over 100,000 features), and then I failed to reload the data again. I get an error message saying "fdo error: -1 [GDB_ItemRelationship Types]" and my geodatabases disappeared in my folder connection, and it even happened for some data I did not open earlier at all. I opened ArcCatalog, and it was the same. My data seemed to disappear. I am so terrified what if I lost all my data. When I check this through window explorer, I still see files for GDB,, but how come ArcGIS does not allow to show any of my data. Will this actually affect on my data...or just it's my ArcGIS problem??? arcgis-desktop file-geodatabase arcgis-10.3 share|improve this question edited May 11 '15 at 0:11 PolyGeo♦ 38.8k1357141 asked May 11 '15 at 0:02 Kay 672 Hi Kay, firstly 100k features isn't big except perhaps for a personal geodatabase (max 2GB), file geodatabases can go up to 2TB with the right configuration keywords. What storage media are you using? USB drive, CF card, on hard disc, network location? What did you do when it stopped working? Close the lid, shutdown, end task, wait? Yes, your data is affected (bad news sorry) but it probably wasn't ArcGis that bro
