I had problems on my system in which I could not find the path to BCP.EXE. Either change the PATH variable of hard code it. Example below works with Adventure Works. -- BCP - Export query, pipe delimited format, trusted security, character format DECLARE @bcp_cmd4 VARCHAR(1000); DECLARE @exe_path4 VARCHAR(200) = ' cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\ & '; SET @bcp_cmd4 = @exe_path4 + ' BCP.EXE "SELECT FirstName, LastName FROM AdventureWorks2008R2.Sales.vSa

I noticed the files were piling up and BCP wasn't picking them up so I tested in http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/128855/unable-to-open-bcp-host-data-file-using-xp-cmdshell-from-ssms-but-command-line Management Studio using the following: DECLARE @sql VARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @path VARCHAR(512) = 'C:\BCPFiles\' --Use BCP to copy files in character format from the target directly into the table. SET @sql = 'bcp [MyDB].[dbo].[MyTable] in ' + @path + 'bcpFile.dat -c -T' EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @sql And got this error message Executing from the command line on the same server using the same command works no problem. Here's a few other observations: I can run EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'dir C:\*.*' and the results return as expected. If I copy and rename the file to something different, BCP picks it up The file isn't being left open by my application: I can move it, rename it, edit and save it, delete it etc... without any complaints from Windows. The internal format of the file is obviously okay (see 2.) NT SERVICE\MSSQLSERVER has Full Control permissions to the directory. Is it your login? The SQL Server service account? A proxy account used by SQL Agent?Likely problems:1. The account being used to run BCP does not have rights to write to the target folder.2. The path or filename is incorrect.3. The file is already opened by something else. (In addition to the data file, if you are using a format file it could cause the problem if opened by another program.)RLF Wednesday, March 03, 2010 11:14 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Thanks for your response.
