Unable To Update The Dependencies Of The Project Vs2010
of VS 2010, but any time I trying to compile it via vs cmd (devenv.com) it comes up with this error: ERROR: Unable to update the dependencies of the project. Notice that there is NO dll that mentioned in the error (e.g. the error does NOT contain "The dependencies for the object ‘xxx’ cannot be determined"). Please do not tell me to clean all the files in this setup and start from ground up - this is not a real solution! I visual studio unable to update the dependencies of the project have 5 projects with this exact error, and I don't want to re-arrange each one. More then that, this does not promise me that the problem will not re-occur in the future. Thanks very much! visual-studio-2010 devenv vdproj share|improve this question asked Oct 2 '11 at 8:04 Orad SA 4552715 3 support.microsoft.com/kb/2286556 –Hans Passant Oct 2 '11 at 11:55 2 The link is broken to this hot fix –gb2d Oct 7 '15 at 9:06 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 27 down vote I used to rebuild these installer projects from scratch when they stopped working (for whatever reason), but I've found a much much quicker (and less error-prone) workaround. It works for me. Maybe it will work for you. Remove the Installer project from your solution through the IDE interface Add the Installer project back into your solution (Add > Existing Project...) Rebuild It works practically every time for me... The project builds and works fine until I check it in and check it back out then it won’t build. I have deleted the setup project and built a new one only to have the same problem after checking it into source control. It also givs me a warning that " Assembly ' FolderName\FileName.exe ' is incorrectly specified https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/83e136a2-a93f-4abb-8bf9-ba6eafba5a2c/unable-to-update-the-dependencies-of-the-project?forum=csharpide as a file. Any suggestions would be helpful. Tuesday, November 29, 2005 9:25 PM Answers 0 Sign in to vote I need a little more information to try to narrow things down. I should mention that there do seem to have been similiar problems reported before [see: http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/49/247883.aspx]. That posting also mentions setup builds breaking after doing a checkout from SCC (although they used VSS) in their case.A few questions:1) Is there more to the error message that just "Unable to update the dependencies of the project"? Most of the posts I've seen with this error also include the path to the dependency in the error message.2) What kind of project(s) are we dealing with? Is the setup project referencing web projects, C# projects, etc. ?3) Have you tried doing a Save All Files and then doing Compare on the setup project's files after you've done the CheckIn and CheckOut to see what has changed? There is a posting about setup project builds breaking due to AssemblyVersion changing [see: http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread420289.html].Thanks,Ben Thursday, December 01, 2005 2:48 PM All replies 0 Sign in to vote I need a little more information to try to narrow things down. a comment TagsSetup Projects I have consistently used this method to get around this bug instead of rebuilding my setup projects. This applies to both merge module projects AND setup projects. Manually remove the data in the Hierarchy https://littletalk.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/setup-project-error-unable-to-update-the-dependencies-of-the-project/ and Files section of the project files. 1. Open .VDPROJ file 2. Find the "Hierarchy" http://www.tandisoft.com/2011/09/dependencies-for-object-cannot-be.html section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: "Hierarchy" { } 3. Find the "File" section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: "File" { } 4. Reload the project 5. Rebuild the project. 6. You may need to re-add project outputs if missing something Like this:Like Loading... included a particular ActiveX control, the GeoVision LiveX control. The build process utilized the devenv.com command line method of building a .Net solution. e.g., devenv.com "MySolution.sln" /rebuild "Release|AnyCPU" The application project would compile just fine, but you would see the following error whenever the setup project tried to compile: "ERROR: Unable to update the dependencies of the project. The dependencies for the object 'Interop.LIVEXLib.dll' cannot be determined." Luckily I found a hint in the right direction: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/552799 Johan Spännare suggests that you "Manually edit your .vdproj file [in notepad]. And remove everthing in the "File" tag." This option is not perfect for me since I also have set particular options for some of the files found in this section. I found a slightly less nuclear option would be to just remove all references to the library that is causing the problem, which works since I don't have any particular options set for it beyond the defaults that Visual Studio applies to it. So I ended up remove 3 sections, the one that referred to Interop.LIVEXLib.dll, AxInterop.LIVEXLib.dll, and of course the ActiveX control that these two referred two, LiveX_8320.ocx. Each section looked something like the following but with SourcePath field referring to one of the files I mentioned.
