> Transact-SQL Question 1 Sign in to vote SS is yelling at unable to parse query text visual studio me when I try to save a view, although it ultimately lets me: "Error in ORDER BY clause. Unable unable to parse query text. ssrs to parse query text." This isthe view: SELECT trde_oid, stuff ((SELECT ',' + a.destn AS [text()] FROM [v-msg-grpd] a WHERE a.trde_oid = b.trde_oid ORDER BY a.destn FOR xml path('')),1,1,'') AS destn_str

FROM [v-msg-grpd] b GROUP BY TRDE_OID Should I simply ignore? I thought the parser is supposed to recognize ORDER BY in a view when it's used with FOR XML PATH... Most appreciated if someone could please confirm that the SQL is kosher enough to use as a view (so far it seems to run without a hitch). Thanks, John Friday, September 14,

I am trying to pull out the 'advisor' relating to the contact and a count of contacts who have that advisor based on a set of criteria. This is fine and works, however, I http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4014127/sql-execution-error-unable-to-parse-query-text want to pull out a third column which is also a 'Count' based on a different set of criteria. This is where I am having trouble. Currently I have the below which states 'unable to parse query text': SELECT advisoridName AS Advisor, COUNT(*) WHERE (advisorid IS NOT NULL) AND (ContactType = 1) AND (StateCode = 0) AS 'Active Participants', COUNT(*) WHERE (advisorid IS NOT NULL) AND (ContactType = 1) AS 'Total Participants' FROM Contact GROUP BY advisoridName, advisorid ORDER BY PDA It would be appreciated if you could steer me in the right direction. What did you try? Did you search the web for the error message? –CodeCaster Nov 27 '13 at 18:06 Duplicate of How to use named parameters in a TableAdapter query?. –CodeCaster Nov 27 '13 at 18:08 @CodeCaster I can just add a ? instead of "at symbol" + parameter to create a parameter? And I tried what you see above, since I didn't know what else to try or do. –nate Nov 27 '13 at 18:12 "What have you tried" does not mean "What code do you currently have that doesn't work", but it mean "What have you tried to resolve the issue", hence my asking about you searching the web.
