macros up until last week. There was a pop-up informing me of a MISSING Visual Basic Library. Thereafter, when I try unable to record personal macro workbook to record excel macro, I receive a pop-up message "Unable to Record".

I have tried DETECT and REPAIR and even uninstalled and reinstalled my MS Office XP. However the problem still personal macro workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording persisted. Previously macros had been working, but one day my machine hiccuped and since then macros have not worked. I have tried to find a solution on the internet but the suggestions I have found either don't work or don't make any sense to me. I am running Excel (as part of Office unable to 2007 Home and Student edition) under Windows 8. Macros work fine under the Word application but not Powerpoint. I did google it a bit, and ran across one possibility: One guy had this problem and it turned out there was a password on the workbook; he removed the password and the record-macro ability came back. Of course, that's just one possibility. I've never run across this before, myself. When you say the VBA editor tells you there are no open projects, I take it you mean you open a workbook with macros embedded (at least, there were macros in it before this problem), and now the VBA explorer window shows only Excel worksheets, no modules? Or if not that, exactly, then what? And what happens when you try to insert a new module there? Oh, and you say one day your machine hiccoughed: Do you remember more exactly?
