Which part of the framework are you using? Also, if you could produce a small sample app which demonstrates this problem and post it, it would help debug it. –MusiGenesis Apr 12 '10 at 20:59 1 possible duplicate of Visual Studio build fails: unable to copy exe-file from obj\debug to bin\debug –Cole Johnson Feb 18 '15 at 2:44 1 possible duplicate of Visual Studio "Could not copy" .... during build –Peter O. The issue since than happened more and more often outside of Visual Studio also - while trying to copy an .exe file from one folder to another. While in the first place Windows did not allow to copy(!) an .exe file (it was first asking me for administrative rights but refused to copy it afterwards anyway) it still showed up in the explorer. But after a while - without any further action taken, it disappeared magically. Just like the problem in the question always seems to solve itself after a while. So i assume, the problem is more related to a delayed deletion of the project output file

Exceeded retry count of 10. Failed. Error 42 Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe" to "bin\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe". The process cannot access the file 'bin\Debug\WeinGartner.WeinCad.exe' because it is being used by another process. Now I've figured out that killing the process Weingartner.WeinCad.vhost.exe works (sometimes ) but this is getting on my nerves. Any way to stop this happening http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18102859/visual-studio-could-not-copy-during-build at all? The problem was that VS cannot copy over an executable that is still running. I'll try to fix it with properly cleaning up resources so the program does not leave hanging after window close button. –lahjaton_j Jan 8 at 8:24 add a comment| 45 Answers 45 active oldest votes 1 2 next up vote 179 down vote accepted I encountered the error message(s) in VS 2013. Mostly it occured when the debug proces was stopped somewhere in an exception. When clean+build has no effect, closing VS, deleting 'bin' and 'obj' folders en openening VS again has till now always resolved the issue. The bug exists since VS2003. Compare this site for 31 other answers. Also: renaming the file is often possible and then you can delete it. share|improve this answer edited Nov 13 '13 at 16:34 answered Oct 31 '13 at 15:04 Gerard 5,02364381 7 Same here, VS2013. version), whenever i build my project, i am facing this error "Unable to copy file "obj\x86\Debug\*.exe" to "bin\Debug\*.exe". The process cannot access the file 'bin\Debug\*.exe' because it is being used by another process." After seeing https://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio-2015/suggestions/3712212-unable-to-copy-file-obj-x86-debug-exe-to-bin this error, i used to close Visual Studio & check for processes in Task Manager (by pressing ctrl+alt+delete), and close process indicating myprojectname.exe, then open Visual Studio and build my project again, it shows 'Build succeeded' and .exe file executes. But, after 2-3 time execution of .exe file, i see the same error and it shows persistently. Please help to solve this problem.
