Now I am getting file not found errors. As a background, it's a Windows Forms Application in C#, and I'm running Visual Studio 10. Here's http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11091544/visual-studio-2010-error-building-due-to-missing-files the errors: Unable to read manifest 'bin\Debug\projectName.vshost.exe.manifest' Could not find file [pathName]\projectName.vshost.exe.manifest. Before I was missing the manifest, I was getting an error that it could not find the other contents of the folder (the exe, the pdb, etc.), error MSB3113 (link) Things I've tried (and some of them were far-fetched, I know): I tried renaming bogus files for all the missing files I tried to find the deleted files, but can't I tried deleting all the contents of the Debug/Release folders and doing a clean build I tried deleting the Debug/Release directories Let me know if you can think of anything I could try out. My issue seems to be vaguely similar to this one. c# winforms visual-studio-2010 share|improve this question asked Jun 18 '12 at 21:44 ahollenbach 376214 1 Generally you should be able to delete your bin and obj folders whenever you'd like. A re-build will recreate the folder structure and compiled output, as per usual. Are you manually placing any external resources or references into the Debug/Release folder? –Cᴏʀʏ Jun 18 '12 at 21:50 No, I am using a custom icon, but that resides in the project directory, would that affect the build? –ahollenb

If I build and/or run the project from code it succeeds but publish fails. Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 unable to read ProjectName Could not find file 'obj\x86\Debug\ProjectName.exe'. ProjectName Funny thing is if I look in the obj\x86\Debug folder it appears to put the ProjectName.exe in for a split second and then remove it again before failing. The error in the output window is: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(3075,5): error MSB3113: Could not find file 'obj\x86\Debug\ProjectName.exe'. Error: Cannot publish because a project failed to build. I've tried the normal stuff like cleaning, rebuilding, rebooting After changing verbosity of build to diagnostics I got following information on the failure: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(3075,5): error MSB3113: Could not find file 'obj\x86\Debug\ProjectName.exe'. Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run -> MSBuild project build output verbosity. Might give you a better idea of the issue. –paul Mar 19 '13 at 12:23 @paul will try that now. –DermFrench Mar 19 '13 at 12:30 add
