You may need to set up a virtual directory whose local path is C:\[path to your solution file]. Also check to make sure your ASPNET system account has the correct security permissions for the directory your solution is located. Also, it may not hurt to do an IIS reset of your machine. I am using Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2010. This solved the problem for me from the command line: cd %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 aspnet_regiis.exe -i Just make sure to go into IIS Manager afterwards and double-check your application pools and such, since it's likely that this will reset some of your configuration. share|improve this answer answered May 5 '11 at 17:18 Calvin Fisher 2,27132242 add a comment| up vote 19 down vote Changing the Debug option to True under .NET compilation did the trick for me. share|improve this answer answered Sep 11 '12 at 0:08 muruge 2,38022641 3 Yes! don't forget to hit Apply. –GGGforce Aug 27 '13 at 15:38 It was the issue in my case. Thanks a lot. –pedram Aug 6 '15 at 8:41 how do you go to .net compilation screen? –avi Mar 11 at 1:00 @avi It's an item located in your IIS manager in the root node. –modiX Mar 17 at 20:40 add a comment| up vote 5 down vote In Visual Studio 2010 this usually means there is a problem with Web.Config file that cannot be displayed in Debug mode. So, simply start the app using Ctrl F5 to run in normal mode will tell you which line in Web.Config is faulty. share|improve this answer answered Aug 7 '13 at 1:22 Ben 5111 add a comment| up vote 4 down vote This error can appear if the password for t
