The installation was successful and uneventful. I have not yet tried to create my first queue or exchange, but I already see trouble. This problem is similar to another SO post, but that other post appears to involve clustering, which I don't have. Furthermore, that other poster can circumvent his issue by restarting the RabbitMQ

service; that approach does not work for me. My "nodedown" problem is evident at the RabbitMQ command prompt: C:\Program Files (x86)\RabbitMQ Server\rabbitmq_server-3.4.3\sbin>rabbitmqctl status Status of node rabbit@TPAJ05421843 ... I get this: C:\Program Files (x86)\RabbitMQ Server\rabbitmq_server-3.4.3\sbin>rabbitmqctl -n RabbitMQ status Status of node 'RabbitMQ@TPAJ05421843' ... But what the heck could it mean that "Erlang distribution failed"? When I

In your configuration, you are accessing the rabbitmq running on OS-controller. I think your hostname is set to it. Just see under /var/log/rabbitmq/. There you might found various log files. If there is a log file rabbit@localhost.log , that is an indication that you should change the hostname into 'localhost' again. Change it, and do systemctl restwart rabbitmq-server. I know this is weird - why rabbitmq does not operates solely on IP address and use hostname value in such a non-typical way? edit flag offensive delete link more add a comment Your Answer Please start posting anonymously - your entry will be published after you log in or create a new account. node rabbit@localhost: nodedown Posted on March 1, 2013 by hmm — 1 Comment I just installed RabbitMQ in Arch Linux from the AUR and can start it without problems using systemctl. sudo systemctl start rabbitmq (BTW: I don't have strong feelings against systemd, to the contrary, it feels very right and sysv/initscripts had to go away at some point. A more verbose output from starting the services would be nice however. I kinda miss the colorful output from Arch Linux' /etc/rc.d/ scripts) I can interact with the message queue in Java. When I run the rabbitmqctl command line utility, RabbitMQ mysteriously states to be down: $ sudo /usr/sbin/rabbitmqctl status Listing queues ... That shouldn't be there because RabbitMQ is running as the rabbitmq user. But since I have my /etc/sudoers set up so as to keep the HOME environment variable, the script is run in the wrong context.
