I've tried killing off the WebDev.WebServer40 process as suggested here. I've disabled IPv6 and my firewall, I've also looked inside my "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319" folder for WebDev.WebServer and it doesn't exist in that directory, even when I download a fresh

one and place it there it still doesn't work. All my other web projects work fine and don't have this problem, but this particular Web Site keeps giving me this error when I try to run it. I'm using VS2010 and .NET Framework 4.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated. asp.net visual-studio-2010 .net-4.0 asp.net-4.0 share|improve this question asked Dec 17 '11 at 8:34 Mohammad Sepahvand 10.7k95489 Have you looked at making sure that the folder has appropriate permissions? I don't recall off hand, but that was my issue way back in the day. –Prescott Dec 17 '11 at 8:36 Yes but that didn't seem to work either, so I just ended up creating a new solution and placing my old project files and pages in the new one and now it works fine, even my web.config is the same as before yet everything is working. Thanks for your help anyway. –Mohammad Sepahvand Dec 17 '11 at 12:07 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Replace WebDev.WebServer.exe with another exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\DevServer\9.0\WebDev.WebServer.exe Restart your machine . 11, 200688 0 0 0 Screwing up an installation is so easy! I realized it when I was working on an issue today and had https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/rahulso/2006/07/11/unable-to-connect-to-visual-studios-localhost-web-server/ to uninstall the .NET Framework (that's different story ;o). I used my Control Panel and uninstalled it, but I was not done yet! I wanted to wipe out all traces https://lakshminarendra.wordpress.com/2010/11/15/unable-to-connect-to-asp-net-development-server-here-is-the-solution/ of .NET 2.0 from my box and I deleted the C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 folder. Then I simply re-installed it and found that everything was working fine except the projects which were unable to being accessed through FileSystem. I was not able to debug those projects at all… Even a CTRL+F5 wouldn't work!! Here is the error message which I got… ------------------Microsoft Visual Studio------------------Unable to connect to Visual Studio's Localhost Web Server------------------OK ------------------ Very soon, I found that there is a file called WebDev.WebServer.exe which was located in C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 folder and it unable to connect was gone since I deleted the folder itself! Aahh… too late… But I was really happy when I found that when I copied the file WebDev.WebServer.exe from one of my colleague's box, it worked absolutely fine :o) And that just saved me a lot of time! I would have hated myself, if I had to re-install the VS 2005 just because of a simple mistake. The point to be noted here are…1) Don't use Shift+Del to delete important folders. It is better to rename it ;o) (as if you didn't know already!)2) In case you do the same mistake as I did… find a person who has the file, and Copy + Paste!!3) It seems like VS2005 installation puts the file (WebDev.WebServer.exe) in the Framework folder. Take good care of it :o) Cheers,Rahul
