And I can't get it to run. I followed this tutorial exactly. And I have fedora 21. Keep getting the error Unable to open rules file "C:\directoryname\Snort\rules": Permission denied. I have directed snort to the directory containing the downloaded .tar rules files (I changed their file extensions to http://superuser.com/questions/1096856/snort-error-unable-to-open-rules-file-permission-denied .rules) via the .conf file line VAR RULE_PATH C:\directory\snort\rules.
