The project builds and works fine until I check it in and check it back out then https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/83e136a2-a93f-4abb-8bf9-ba6eafba5a2c/unable-to-update-the-dependencies-of-the-project?forum=csharpide it won’t build. I have deleted the setup project and built a new one only to have the same problem after checking it into source control. It also givs me a warning that " Assembly ' FolderName\FileName.exe ' is incorrectly specified as a file. Any suggestions would be helpful. Tuesday, November 29, 2005 9:25 PM Answers 0 Sign in to vote I need a little more information to try to narrow things down. I should mention that there do seem to have been similiar problems reported before [see: http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/49/247883.aspx]. That posting also mentions setup builds breaking after doing a checkout from SCC (although they used VSS) in their case.A few questions:1) Is there more to the error message that just "Unable to update the dependencies of the project"? Most of the posts I've seen with this error also include the path to the dependency in the error message.2) What kind of project(s) are we dealing with? Is the se
raised errors instead: ERROR: Unable to update the dependencies of the project. The dependencies for the object ‘MyAssembly.DLL' cannot be determined. Clicking the Refresh Dependencies command in the context menu of the setup project's Dependencies raised the error The operation could https://devio.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/vs-2010-setup-project-error-updating-dependencies/ not be completed. These errors occur in VS 2010, and seem to be around for several years now (connect, connect, connect). Workaround From the workarounds section of this Connect entry, this solution worked for me: 1. Open .VDPROJ file (in a text editor) 2. Find the "Hierarchy" section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: "Hierarchy" { } 3. Find the "File" section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: unable to "File" { } 4. Reload the project 5. Rebuild the project. I removed the whole sections "Hierarchy" and "File", which also worked. However, the whole procedure seems cumbersome considering you may have more than one setup project in a solution, and probably more than one solution you are developing or maintaining. Fix The error still seems to be present in VS 2010 SP 1. Fortunately, MS in the meantime provides the hotfix KB2286556 unable to update which solved the problem for now. Thanks Reply Bernhard says: December 16, 2011 at 19:22 After deleting these lines of the .vdproj, VS2010 complains that it cannot open the project. Also, KB2286556 didn't help me either, although the symptoms look exactly the same here…😦 Reply John says: March 13, 2012 at 3:02 I got the same thing - the project will no longer load at all… Reply Paul Barsby says: May 8, 2012
