I have found numerous workarounds and even a hot fix by using Google, however none of it solves the problem. I am at a loss of what to do. I have tried this Hotfix: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/Downloads/DownloadDetails.aspx?DownloadID=30681 I have tried clearing the Hierarchy/File contents in the .vdproj file I have tried http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14904736/building-visual-studio-2010-setup-project-error-unable-to-update-the-dependen the suggestion listed at this blog: http://binglongx.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/building-visual-studio-2010-setup-project-error-unable-to-update-the-dependencies-of-the-project/ I have tried dumping that .vdproj from the solution altogether and creating a new one. This one will build, but when I try deploying, I get a new problem that I can't find a solution for. (The application will not install as a service, which it should). I want to get the original set up project working to see if it will install correctly. Does anyone have a solution or workaround that I have not listed above? Alternatively, can anyone tell me what would cause a setup project to not deploy as a service as it is intended to be? I have done this with other services in the past, and it just worked. installer share|improve this question asked Feb 15 '13 at 22:53 Dave 1423313 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote 1-Remove the Installer project from your solution through the IDE interface 2-Add the Installer project back into your solution (Add > Existing Project...) 3-Rebuild It works practically every time for me... share|improve this answer answered May 30 at 9:04 David Fawzy 1037 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote accepted Was able to solve it using the following KB article. http:/
raised errors instead: ERROR: Unable to update the dependencies of the project. The dependencies for the object ‘MyAssembly.DLL' cannot be determined. These errors occur in VS 2010, and seem to be around for several years now (connect, connect, connect). Workaround From the workarounds section of this Connect entry, this solution worked for me: 1. Open .VDPROJ file unable to (in a text editor) 2. Find the "Hierarchy" section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: "Hierarchy" { } 3. Find the "File" section. Delete everything so the section looks like this: "File" { } 4. Reload the project 5. Rebuild the project. I removed the whole sections "Hierarchy" and "File", which also unable to update worked. However, the whole procedure seems cumbersome considering you may have more than one setup project in a solution, and probably more than one solution you are developing or maintaining. Fix The error still seems to be present in VS 2010 SP 1. Fortunately, MS in the meantime provides the hotfix KB2286556 which solved the problem for now.
