Error using ==> load Unable to read MAT-file C:\sub1 Prmtrs.mat: not a binary MAT-file. Try LOAD -ASCII to read as text.*It's very strange that this program did work in the computer I'm now using yesterday. I can also load data using the same .mat files and the same program in another computer earlier today.I'm very confused. Could anybody help figure out why? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.Qing Liu 0 Comments Show all comments Tags load .mat file in matlab Products No products are associated with this question. I typically get it after opening and closing several large mat files. If I exit Matlab and restart, I can continue to open/close more mat files but eventually I get the error again. Mathworks really needs to do something about this. 0 Comments Show all comments Q L (view profile) 3 questions 1 answer 0 accepted answers Reputation: 0 Vote0 Link Direct link to this answer: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/18127#answer_26227 Answer by Q L Q L (view profile) 3 questions 1 answer 0 accepted answers Reputation: 0 on 31 Oct 2011 I've solved the problem by re-copying the mat.files from another computer.....Anyway, thanks a lot! 0

As FIG files technically are MAT files, the files you are attempting to open may have been created using this format, which is not supported by previous versions of MATLAB.To work around this issue, you will need to open the GUI in GUIDE in MATLAB 7.3 (R2006b) or higher and resave with the MAT-file preferences changed to MATLAB version 7 or later. You can set this in the menu File -> Preferences -

In Unix that's normally ~/.matlab/Rxyz/. Another thing you can try is to change the preferences from within Matlab (), hoping that the file gets overwritten. –A. Donda Aug 10 '15 at 19:07 1 you got a hint in the error message: "/Users/.../.matlab/R2012b/matlabprefs.mat". Part is missing but that should guide you. Just remember that folder names star
