weeks worth of work was lost this morning when I tried to open an Excel 2003 spreadsheet with one macro, several pivot tables, and many thousands of rows of data and got the message "Unable to Read File". Post-file recovery it's all a microsoft excel 2013 unable to read file bunch of gibberish. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! Strange files can show up in e-mail. Then ask the friend what kind of files are in the zip and then ask that they be resent if you really want them. I unzipped it to my desktop. reservation2004.xls its about 200k I get the same error he does. Unable to open file. I have excel2002 with sp3 per microsoft suggestions. If it didn't originate with your friend, can another copy be obtained? See if you can open it in Word. If so any text may be retrievable. No use sending it to me;
