The e-mail address being used is a valid one. Obviously it is not the one shown, I've taken out the actual address for the sake of this post. If the person exits out of Outlook though, and goes into there webmail account, then they can send the e-mail without a problem. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? I realized that I changed the relay configuration to "authenticated users" only and the server wasn't working as I expected. To solve the problem I did the following steps: Open the Exchange System Manager; Go in Administrative Groups -> Administrative group name -> Server -> Server name -> Protocols -> SMTP; Right click on Default SMTP Virtual Server -> properties; Access tab -> Relay buttom; Select "only the list bellow" and add your domain and\or IPs you do want to allow the relay and finally check the "Allow all computers witch successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" checkbox. Prior to installing the Edge Transport server the clients could send and receive mail without issue. Once the Edge server was put in place the clients can receivebut can unable to no longer send to any external domains. However, clients within the organization connectingto the Exchange Server with Outlook can send mail to external dominas without issue. Clients outside of the organization can connect through OWA and send email to external domains without issue. The clients get the "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay" message. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have used the Set-ReceiveConnector permissions and this has not resolved the issue.
