HD 7790 + Catalyst = Error: unable to open display glxinfo unable to open display (null)Greetings,I've installed Arch 2 days ago(migrated from Fedora), but I'm still a newbie to linux, so please have patience.I've bought AMD Radeon HD 7790 recently and decided that it's time to upgrade system, but since then I had only problems with it. No LiveCD I tried (Fedora 20, Mint) worked properly in graphics mode, so I suspected problem in built-in drivers and moved to linux with text-only installation (Arch), so I could install drivers later. I've followed wiki manual and installed catalyst, removed open source driver, added nomodeset parametr to GRUB etc. but I'm still stucked, because Xorg won't start(black screen and errors presented in Logs). Tried googling, but learned nothing except Radeon proprietary drivers are comparable to suicide.Versions:Kernel: 3-10.40-1-lts (catalyst_build_module sucessful)Catalyst: 14.4-10Xorg: 1.14.5-11Logs&Configs:lsmodfglrx 8672295 0 amd_iommu_v2 7174 1 fglrx button 4765 1 fglrxfglrxinfoError: unable to open display (null)Xorg.0.conf[ 2632.576] X.Org X Server 1.14.5 Release Date: 2013-12-12 [ 2632.594] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 2632.600] Build Operating System: Linux 3.12.6-1-ARCH x86_64 [ 2632.606] Current Operating System: Linux localhost 3.10.40-1-lts #1 SMP Tue May 13 12:50:03 UTC 2014 x86_64 [ 2632.606] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-linux-lts root=UUID=4f60e723-44e9-4264-8d6c-ca62c43cf69c rw quiet nomodeset [ 2632.619] Build Date: 08 January 2014 01:35:51PM [ 2632.629] [ 2632.635] Current version of pixman: 0.32.4 [ 2632.646] Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. Then unload fglrx: "sudo rmmod fglrx" 3. See the x server error messages: "cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log", copy that file to your desktop "cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Desktop" (it will be overwritten at next x start) then attach/post it here. If you want to start lightdm, remove the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/linux-graphics-x-org-drivers/amd-linux/34019-no-gui-after-installing-ati-driver-hd6770/page2 "sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf", then start lightdm/gdm with "sudo service lightdm start" (this is for lightdm). Thanks for reply. Here is the log file. btw, i installed fresh ubuntu 12.10 and this is log file after installing 13.1 driver. I got black screen again... I couldn't paste the code here since it has 33k characters. So here's the link of some free file hosting where I uploaded that file: http://www.freefilehosting.net/xorg0 Hope that this is ok. Thanks a lot! Is there any other way to paste it or attache it here? 2009, 02:18 PMOk, I'm trying this once again after posting a couple of times on other boards... So far I have to say I haven't gotten a whole lot of love from these boards regarding this problem, with yet a https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1312616.html single reply, both from an older post when I ran Jaunty and a more recent one after my upgrade to Karmic (although I believe that was in the wrong board by mistake). Now, I did a clean install of Karmic, and I've got everything up and running. I'm liking Karmic a lot so far, but there's one thing that's bugging me since I switched over from Windows: ATI's proprietary drivers. While I know this isn't specifically a unable to Ubuntu thing, I would very much like to get them running with Compiz, etc. Right now, it's just not. Here's what happens: when I enable the drivers (through the Administration>Hardware Drivers menu), the system won't load. I get the white Ubuntu after GRUB, then nothing but a blinking Caps Lock. Now, I've been looking into the problem, and I can't seem to figure out why. My xorg.conf is very bare, all I have is this: Section "Screen" Identifier unable to open "Default Screen" DefaultDepth 24 EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Driver "fglrx" EndSection I see no major errors in Xorg.0.log (attached below) as far as I can tell, although I think the lines stating "Cannot locate a core pointer/keyboard device." have something to do with the problem. I also get the following if I run "aticonfig --query-monitor" aticonfig --query-monitor Default Adapter - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series Connected monitors: none Enabled monitors: none And when I run fglrxinfo (or glxinfo, whatever that is), it returns: fglrxinfo Error: unable to open display (null) I'm thinking this has got to be connected, right? Problem is, I've no idea how to fix it! I've been googling around, but all I find are people trying to get dual monitors and big desktop to work, which isn't my case. Could anyone, please, help me with this? Could it just be a case of specifying monitors/displays in xorg.conf? If so, where should I be looking for information on how to do this? Please, I could really use a hand here. Lendro_FuriosoNovember 3rd, 2009, 03:55 PMOh, forgot to mention, it's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 on pretty much your standard laptop... Lendro_FuriosoNovember 3rd, 2009, 10:05 PMStill no takers, I see... Any chance some Ubuntu guru could take a look at this? Does anyone thing filing a bug report with ATI woul
