to transfer files from a remote server directly to my omv box. I don't necessarily need a gui. I installed Filezilla but when I try to run it this pops up: "Error: Unable to initialize gtk, is DISPLAY set properly?" Any ideas? Are you trying to run filezilla from the command line when logged into the system or over putty? If so, that won't work without a few more things. To run it from the system itself, you need an X environment like xfde. To run it from putty with X forwarding, you still need the X/gtk libraries. omv 3.0.46 erasmus | 64 bit | 4.7 backport kernel | omvextrasorg 3.3.16 omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github.com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers Quote Report Content Go to Page Top ScaryCanary Beginner Posts 12 3 Re: Run Filezilla on OMV Feb 4th 2013, 10:24pm Thanks for moving it I'm trying to run it over putty logged in as root. But I'm open to anything that doesn't require my normal pc do be on while transferring files. Right now I'm my windows machine with filezilla to download files from my remote server to my nas. But that is kinda annoying. What would be the easier solution? What's the difference between running it from the sys

You should NEVER login graphically as root. What software do you want to use? Is it REALLY necessary to give it root access=If you want to run it as root, you should do the following in a terminal:$ xhost + enable X access from terminals$ su login as root# /path/to/programnameOr https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=133667 better yet if you use sudo.Better yet if you start the program withgksu

[closed] up vote 6 down vote favorite I'm having some trouble getting pgadmin3 to run on a remote server. I'm logging in to the server using SSH with the -X option. When I first installed pgadmin3, I was able to launch it using the command "pgadmin3 &", and PG Admin would launch correctly using my local X server. Something unable to initialize has happened though, and now PG Admin will no longer launch. It bounces back with the message "Error: Unable to initialize gtk, is DISPLAY set properly?" I'm using the same SSH command to log in to the server, and the same command to launch PG Admin, yet it is no longer working. I haven't made any changes to my SSH configuration, nor have I installed any new software, so I'm at a loss as to how this broke and how to go about fixing it. What could have happened to break this, and where do I start with fixing it? server ssh postgresql share|improve this question edited Nov 17 '10 at 0:07 Jorge Castro 24.4k91386589 asked Sep 20 '10 at 17:06 Warren Pena 1,05051112 closed as too localized by Luis Alvarado♦ Mar 14 '13 at 17:17 This question is unlikely to help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet.
