Unable to connect to the remote serverContact VMware support if necessaryReport Error to VMware...I've tried this using the vSphere client on the vCenter server, and two more machines. I've confirmed that the ESX hosts have the proper (local) DNS servers listed. I'm not sure where to go now. Any help would be very appreciated.Environment: 2 ESX hosts - one at 3.5 and one new one at 4.1 both with error: unable to connect to the converter helper server on the destination virtual machine. Re: Cannot install Update Manager Extension AndreTheGiant Jan 30, 2011 2:15 AM (in response to ddawson201110141) Could be a firewall problem, the VUM Server part that is not working or maybe a simple DNS problem.First try to connect with RDP to your vCenter Server and try VUM from localhost. If it works and you are sure that is not firewall problem, than check DNS resolution.Andre Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: Cannot install Update Manager Extension ddawson201110141 Feb 1, 2011 3:19 PM (in response to GaneshNetworks) Grrr. Uninstalled and re-installed on non-custom ports and it's working fine. Need to go back and see what was on those original ports but it's fine now. Thanks for all the replies. They were helpful in doing the basic troubleshooting. Like Show 0 Likes (0) Ac

Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I have 2 host servers running esx 5.1. One of the servers has a VMWare vCenter Server Appliance 5.1..5200 build 880472 running 64 bit Suse Linux. It was working fine yesterday. Today, I can ping it by IP address and by FQDN. If I use the vsphere client to connect to the ESX https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/291417-vsphere-client-cannot-access-vcenter-server host its running on I can see it running, and I can look at it via the console. Ive verified the IP addresses. I can visit the web interface of the server appliance http://x.x.x.x:5480, and I can perform any of the functions I find there. When I first went there this morning the server section of it was down, and woudlnt stay running when I tried to restart it. Rebooting the machine revealed nothing out of the ordinary during boot, and the server function is now listed as "running".
Despite all this, I cannot connect from any of the machines where I have vsphere client loaded. When I try, I get the error vSphere Client could not connect to "insert FQDN here". An unknown connection error occurred. (The request failed because of a connection failure. (Unable to connect to the remote server)) Ive googled around, but havent found a perfect match for my situation. Has anyone else out there run into this situation who might save me some time? I can start vm now but there is a error message when i connect to vcenter from vmware unable to connect vsphere client. error message is "vSphere Client could not connect with the vCenter server"server name". Detail: A connection failure occurred(Unable to connect to the remote server)" The host ip is xx.xx.4.176. vCenter vm is xx.xx.4.177, which previous ip is xx.xx.0.177 and it located on a SAN storage.
