create volume/passport/... The external hard drive has over 200+ GB of remaining disk space; and the number of pictures being exported is 170 with an average size of 4MB per picture. Any suggestions of what is happening will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. If it is NTFS, OS X cannot write to it without the help of 3rd party drivers. file is corrupt. Try exporting the others. iPhoto allows you to backup by using Share/Burn or Export or Drag https://www.mail-archive.com/wamug@wamug.org.au/msg50473.html & drop. You said you used export have you tried the other 2. I usually just drag the photos onto a folder. If so, first check that the unable to External drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled) because a Windows formatted drive can cause problems with your library. Make sure iPhoto is Quit. Copy the "entire iPhoto Library folder" to the new drive. That's the only way to copy the photos and the database, which includes albums, keywords, and all other iPhoto metadata. Once copied, you can Option-launch iPhoto, unable to create choose the library on the External Drive, and open it to check that it functions properly. You'll have to Option-launch iPhoto and select your main library to get back to it after you have tested the back-up.
