Mail Merge Can't Open Data Source
I am trying to do a mail merge in Word 2008 for Mac and receive this message when I kingsoft writer cannot open data source try to open the Excel file for the data. Can someone please help? I tried changing the filename to .xls (originally .xlsx) but it didn't work. Generally speaking, you will be better off researching Mac Word questions in the relevant forum on Microsoft Answers, in this case here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword This particular issue was discussed in this conversation:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword/cant-open-excel-file-for-mail-merge/90ccfd11-273f-4c2a-aa37-1d859b8e41e2?page=1 If that does not help, and you cannot find anything else in the Answers group, I suggest that you post a new question in that group, referencing the above conversation and specifying your version of Mac OSX.Peter Jamieson Marked as answer by Steve FanMicrosoft contingent staff, Moderator Monday, December 22, 2014 9:14 AM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 9:39 AM Reply | Quote Microsoft is conducting an online survey to understand your opinion of the Technet Web site. All of a sudden it stopped working... ??? I didn't do anything different that I have before. When I try to import the data into mail merge, none of my tables show up (see attachment). Then, when I select "ok", it tells me that Word is unable to open the data source. Any suggestions??? Thanks! Are you sure your workbook is still in the .xls format and hasn't been changed to the newer .xlsx format? __________________ Cheers, Paul unable to open Edstein [MS MVP - Word] #3 03-14-2014, 12:35 PM meganadand Windows 7 64bit Office 2010 64bit Novice Join Date: Jan 2014 Posts: 3 You're right. The error message refers to an .xls format, but the document is in and .xlsx format. What do I need to do to fix it and why did that change? Here are the document properties: Attached Images 2014-03-14 14_30_41-Microsoft Excel - Mail Merge.jpg (32.8 KB, 7 views) #4 03-14-2014, 12:40 PM macropod Windows 7 32bit Office 2010 32bit Administrator Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Canberra, Australia Posts: 14,270 Simply select the correct file as the data source, save the updated file, then continue as before. For example (assuming you're still getting the SQL prompt upon opening the document), when the 'Data Link Properties' dialogue pops up, simply add the missing 'x' to the end of the file extension. __________________ Cheers, Paul Edstein [MS MVP - Word] #5 03-14-2014, 12:45 PM meganadand Windows 7 64bit Office 2010 64bit Novice Join Date: Jan 2014 Posts: 3 Thanks, but I already tried that - it won't let me edit the file extension. Solved Word 2013 mail merge error cannot find dde source to Access table Posted on 2013-02-16 MS Access MS Word Windows 8 Windows OS 1 Verified Solution 21 Comments 3,254 Views Last Modified: 2013-07-03 I have a set of Word documents (2003 .doc) that merge to an Access data table. I have used them in Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 without any problems. I am testing them on Office 2013 and when the Word document opens it complains cannot find dde source etc. If I click through and continue with 'find data source' and repoint it at the correct database (.mdb opening in Access 2013) it connects and is OK, and when reused after that it is fine. I am trying to avoid reconnecting over 100 documents, is there a fix or a property somewhere? I have Word option 'confirm conversion on open' checked and the db and word docs are all in trusted locations. 0 Question by:Paul-bbc Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byPaul-bbc dde not available, use different connection method Go to Solution 19 Comments Message Author Comment by:Paul-bbc2013-02-16 and everything is in the same place i.e. same file paths, table name etc. for merge source.
