reset.Did not fix it.SO...i got ballsy...I went thru almost all the settings in the maintenance menu (80) and hit 2783 on them to clear them out. I did not do ones that i thought might hurt it. But in reality, if i did 2783 to one and it didnt like it, when i went back it would default it to factory so i dont think you can mess it up.But now it works, so i think everyone else who did the purge and it didnt fix it, do what i did...This was on a mfc5440 by unknown on Mar 4, 2009 at 1:34pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 1 Hi folks, just found this site and hope someone can help. this and how can imake this msg go AWAY. Make the printer work. brother mfc 420cn unable to clean error message Respond to this 0 I have the same problem for my Brother MFC 210. I believe the models are the brother printer unable to clean 5a same. Did you find the procedure and code to reset the purge counter? If so, please share it, and I'll do the same if I find out anything. Otherwise, my otherwise good printer http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/40500 will be going to the trash. Do you think the service manual will have the code, and if so, does anyone know where to get one? by unknown on Mar 27, 2007 at 6:58pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Here is the answer to the Machine Error 46 (have just fixed my own MFC210C):Machine Error 46 – Purged Ink Box Full MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/45876 FAX2440CThe machine counts all purge (cleaning) operations in order to prevent the internal ink absorber box from overflowing with purged ink. An “initial purge”, for example, advances the purge counter by 187 + 420 = 607. When the purge counter approaches 6400, an internal "Machine Error 46" is generated. Further purge operations are prohibited, and therefore the printer becomes unuseable. When an internal Machine Error 46 is generated, the user will see an “Unable to Clean” external message and will be unable to use the printer. The “Unable to Clean” external message can relate to many different internal error codes however. The user can establish the internal Machine Error Code as follows: pull the mains cable out of the machine (power off), hold down the Menu/Set key, re-insert the mains cable into the machine (power on). The internal Machine Error Code will be displayed. If there is a Machine Error 46, it is necessary to dismantle the printer, replace the ink absorber box (or possibly break the ink absorber box open and clean its absorbent sponges under a tap), re-assemble the printer and reset the purge counter to zero.Resetting purge counter MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and FAX2440C1) Enter machine maintenance mode (o

My printer was working fine until I get this error: "Unable to Clean, please check the manual etc. etc." I've tried googling it unable to and some solutions but none of them work. My printer is a Brother MFC 215C and is no longer covered by warranty. Thanks! Follow 2 answers 2 Report Abuse Are you sure that you want to delete this answer? Yes No Sorry, something has gone wrong. Trending Now Answers Best Answer: I googled around a bit, so try this: 1. First of all, open your printer and check that the ink head has no paper or any debris, if there is unable to clean remove it. 2. Hello, Please power off the machine, then, while holding the menu button, turn on the machine and wait until all the LED lights flash on the panel. Does it give you an error code, like machine error 46? 20 days and 12 hours ago. Customer Reply yes Accepted Answer Error 46 means the ink absorber is full, however we can try to fix it one time by resetting the ink counter, try this: Power off the machine again, then, while holding the menu button, turn on the machine and wait until all the LED lights flash on the panel. Now press 8 then 0 Press the mono start button repeatedly until you see purge: xxxx (it will show numbers) Press 2, then 7, then 8, then 3 to reset the purge counter, it should change to purge:0000 Press 9, then 9 again to exit maintenance mode If that doesn't fix it, you will need to have this serviced by Brother, as they will need to use special tools to get to the absorbers, however the good news is that it is not the end of your printer. Everytime you turn the printer on, the printer goes through a purge cycle to unclog any dried ink from the printhead, this waste ink goes into your ink absorber pads, it is normal for any printer to have to have these replaced at some point once they get too full.
