Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.” I click OK and the file I want does open. However, no file with "Credit Card Template" in its name now exists on my Windows 7 PC 64bit OS computer. Some time ago, there was an xls file with that name, and later when I went to Office 2019 32 bit, it was changed to xlsx, with that name but they are no only in a remote backup hard drive. There has never been a file with a "t" in the extension I first ran the Repair procedure on MS Office; and I then ran the MS Security Scanner program and it reported no problems. Finally I completely uninstalled Office 2010 and reinstalled it – to no avail. Thankfully, I do get to my Excel files. But it requires two additional clicks that are very annoying. And the message makes no sense to me because it doesn't refer to the file I am seeking to open, nor to any file on the computer - and it is meaningless since Excel can (and does) open the file. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to correct this matter. The XLS File is 1.231 MB in size. It has 15 worksheets. Awhile back when I was opening the file, I received a window message stating "The workbook you are opening contains macros. Some macros may contain viruses." along with three buttons, Disable Macros (default), Enable Macros, & Do Not Open. A problem here first-of-all is that the file never had macros. Even checking the file after opening (going into the unable to Macro menus) revealed that the file had no macros. But the file worked otherwise and I never gave it much thought. I do have the entire system (every file) periodically scanned for viruses. I update my Norton AV monthly. NOW, when I try opening this very important file, I still get the macro window message, but immediately afterwards it bluntly states "Unable to Read File". I really need the stuff in this file, in each worksheet. I opening the file with a text editor unable to read and all the data still seems to be there. Your assistance & insite would be very much appreciated on how I can address this problem. Copy and paste the workbook to a new Excel file. Let us know if this works for you or not.
