Showmount Clnt_create: Rpc: Port Mapper Failure - Authentication Error
this please? As a background I'm trying to network our three PC's at home here - my machine (host), the wife's, and my son's. All three incidentally are running FC3, although my son's dual boots with Win98. The idea is that all three machines can share an internet connection and the printer attached to my PC. Additionally, all three PC's should be able to access shared files on my PC (family photos, music, etc.), and there are some files on my wife's machine we both need access to. The internet connection's fine - we have an Origo 8100 modem/router (address 10.0.0.2, netmask 255.0.0.0) which is connected to a Netgear 104 hub, which the three PC's are connected to - all three PC's can access the internet without any problem. I've set all three machines up with an ip address of 10.0.0.x and netmask of 255.0.0.0, and can ping between all three without any apparent problem. However, trying to set up NFS is proving problematic. The folders I want to share are /files from my PC (host)

Everything appears ok, but when I issue the command "showmount -e (server_name).edu" from the client I get the message: mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive I've googled this message. There are many unable to receive hits posting the problem but few responses. Most responses say something like - "you don't have portmap service running." I checked this and all is ok. Please help!!!! I really want to get this working but have already spent days trying. Braggin' rights to the person who has the fix. ssh, ftp, ping, etc. all work between machines. attempts to mount yield # mount (server_name).edu:/usr/local /nfs mount to NFS server '(server_name).edu' failed: server is down. File contents and things I've tried are given below. On the server side I run: # rpcinfo -p program vers proto port 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper 100024 1 udp 32768 status 100024 1 tcp 32769 status 100011 1 udp 609 rquotad 100011 2 udp 609 rquotad 100011 1 tcp 612 rquotad 100011 2 tcp 612 rquotad 100003 2 udp 2049 nfs 100003 3 udp 2049 nfs 100003 4 udp 2049 nfs 100003 2 tcp 2049 nfs 100003 3 tcp 2049 nfs 100003 4 tcp 2049 nfs 100021 1 udp 32770 nlockmgr 100021 3 udp 32770 nlockmgr 100021 4 udp 32770 nlockmgr 100021 1 tcp 32770 nlockmgr 100021 3 tcp 32770 nlockmgr 100021 4 tcp 32770 nlockmgr 100005 1 udp 625 mountd 100005 1 tcp 628 mountd 100005 2 udp 625 mountd 100005 2 tcp 628 mountd 100005 3 udp 625 mountd
