There seems to be some problems with my Wii and its abiliy to read discs. Starting a while back it would stop reading discs and instead give a message akin unable to to "Unable to read the disc. Please refer to the Wii operations manual". I tried several other games, but to no avail. It even started giving a message that reads something like "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn off the Wii console and refer to the Operations Manual.", however I cannot seem to find anything helpful in unable to read the manual. I have tried searching the internet but have not found anything useful -- until yesterday. I was told I could try cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner, and so I did. Now it is able to recognize the game inserted, but if I try to start the game, the Wii will try to load it, but will give the error message "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn off the Wii console and refer to the Operations Manual." after a while. Now, interesting to note, this concerns only Wii games, as it plays GameCube games with absolutely no problems. Would any of you have any helpful things to say? Does anything need to be replaced? Is there anything wrong with the lens? I appreciate all and any help. tl;dr: Wii does not read Wii games, but reads GameCube discs without problems. What do I do? Just buy the Wii's lens cleaning kit.

I tried it a couple of times and the same thing happened. The disc drive repeatedly made the same reading sound over and over again and I tried it about three further times. Then, I unplugged the power and moved the console from horizontal to vertical position and plugged it back in again. The next time it worked and I played a quick game of Tennis. Then tried to play a game of Baseball but got the error again. I tried to load the whole game up again but the error just returned. I don't have any other game to test yet and my GameCube games are US games so I can't test those, either. Having searched a little bit on Google I found some forums of some Americans discussing the same problem and they've said it's only Wii Sports they've experienced the problem with. Has anyone else had this difficulty at all? Very annoying to say the least! jmctavish 16 Dec 2006 00:07:35 809 posts Seen 6 years ago Registered 12 years ago I haven't had any disc read errors yet. /touches wood Are you inserting the disc the right way round? Sounds stupid but it's easy to do when it's vertical. Rez 16 Dec 2006 00:27:39 42 posts Seen 7 years ago Registered 11 years ago Yup. It did occur to me but having had it horizontal to start with that couldn't be it. Rez 23 Dec 2006 13:49:20 42 posts Seen 7 years ago Registered 11 years ago I bought Zelda yesterday and the same ruddy problem occurs I managed to get it working after ejecting the disc about 5 times, then the intro messed up when it ran the game, so I re-inserted the disc while the game was still running and it ended up working for the 8 hours of game play that followed! Still, I think the drive is definitely dodgy so I'm going to contact Nintendo about it when they're open after Christmas.
