Unable to load data in Octave. Start Watching « Prev Topic » Next Topic 0 votes I am trying to load the training.csv file in octave using dlmread function but it seems to be taking a lot of time . I tried the dlmread function on a file containing about 100 http://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/load-data-td1636578.html examples and it worked fine but for given training.csv it seems to be taking a lot of time. Can anyone suggest some other way of loading the dataset in octave? #1 | Posted 4 years ago Permalink Akshit Posts 1 Joined 26 Sep '11 | Email User 0 votes Hmm....it should work. Try using csvread(). But it is equivalent to dlmread('file',',',...) https://www.kaggle.com/c/DontGetKicked/forums/t/1185/unable-to-load-data-in-octave #2 | Posted 4 years ago Permalink shadowfax Posts 1 Joined 20 Nov '11 | Email User 4 votes It just takes a long, long time. Octave isn't well-suited for reading CSVs. Try this: Load the CSV: trainingData = csvread("file.csv") Go get a cup of coffee, have a cigarette, read a few sections of the newspaper. When Octave gives you back your prompt, run this: 'save("-binary", "file.bin", "trainingData")' In the future, whenever you want to load the training data, just run: 'load("file.bin")'. It works in seconds, and will automatically populate the 'trainingData' variable with your data. #3 | Posted 4 years ago Permalink fuerve Competition 35th Posts 11 | Votes 8 Joined 20 Nov '11 | Email User 0 votes I just found csv2cell() in the miscellaneous package on octave forge. I have not been using it that long, but it seems to be a lot faster than csvread(). #4 | Posted 4 years ago Permalink BJG Posts 16 | Votes 12 Joined 16 Apr '11 | Email User Reply You must be logged in to reply to this topi
the save command can be controlled using the functions save_default_options and save_precision. As an example the following code creates https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/v4.0.0/Simple-File-I_002fO.html a 3-by-3 matrix and saves it to the file ‘myfile.mat’. A = [ 1:3; 4:6; 7:9 ]; save myfile.mat A Once one or more variables have been saved to a file, they can be read into memory using the load command. load myfile.mat A -| A = -| -| 1 2 3 -| 4 5 6 -| 7 unable to 8 9 Command: save file Command: save options file Command: save options file v1 v2 … Command: save options file -struct STRUCT f1 f2 … Command: save "-" v1 v2 … Built-in Function: s = save ("-" v1 v2 …) Save the named variables v1, v2, …, in the file file. The special filename ‘-’ may be used octave error load to return the content of the variables as a string. If no variable names are listed, Octave saves all the variables in the current scope. Otherwise, full variable names or pattern syntax can be used to specify the variables to save. If the -struct modifier is used, fields f1 f2 … of the scalar structure STRUCT are saved as if they were variables with corresponding names. Valid options for the save command are listed in the following table. Options that modify the output format override the format specified by save_default_options. If save is invoked using the functional form save ("-option1", …, "file", "v1", …) then the options, file, and variable name arguments (v1, …) must be specified as character strings. If called with a filename of "-", write the output to stdout if nargout is 0, otherwise return the output in a character string. -append Append to the destination instead of overwriting. -ascii Save a single matrix in a text file without header or any other information. -binary Save the data in Octave&rs
